 o
sea buckthorn looking awful

I bought 4 Buryatian sea buckthorns from one green world this spring. I planted them in a sandy very well-drained area that gets pretty much full sun (just not in the early morning) and they've been kept moist. They looked good when they arrived but they look terrible now - the newest growth (if you could call it that) is brownish and quite a few of the older leaves are turning yellow and falling off. I thought these things were supposed to be easy to grow! They're the only plants in my yard that aren't growing! Does anyone know if they're hard to establish? Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

I bought 50 seedlings last year and they grew 2-3' during that year. Maybe your area is too humid/moist for their tastes. They like it on the drier side.

Abuse them.

My Okie summer last year was awful. All the seaberry got was a splash as the hose went past, between the strawberries and the goumi, which needed water all the time. The seaberry got a decent drink when I watered the lawn every 10 days.

It took me a while to realize that I have seaberry fruit this year! They are a very inconspicuous thing.
