Melianthus major toxic or not?

Posted by Esperanza z9 CA (My Page) on

I have a Melianthus major that has nectar dripping from its flowers. It is sweet tasting, not bitter, and it doesn't smell bad. I have read conflicting information on whether this nectar is toxic or not. Does anyone know?

RE: Melianthus major toxic or not?

My knowlege of Melianthus is that it's the nectar that is used and no other part of the plant. That's where it gets the name honey bush.
