Help on Pomegranate !!!

Posted by mcook 10 (My Page) on

We just bought a home that has a pomegranate tree in the back yard. The realtor trimmed off quite a bit of the tree when he tried to sell the house.
The realtor left the center/main trunk untrimed and chopped-off all the secondary trunks at the bottom.... and now all the 'trimmed-trunks' starting to grow suckers like crazy. I've tried to removed them time after time, but it's getting tiring.

What can I do to STOP the suckers from growing completely? Does additional trimming of the trunk help?

The pomegranate is flowering now & is starting to bear fruit (couple of them).

Thank in advance!!!

p.s. I wish I can show y'all the picture of it, but I don't know how to upload pictures in here =(

RE: Help on Pomegranate !!!

If you email me the pictures at Opcnup@gmail.com I should be able to load them into my photobucket for you if you like. I would suggest letting 3-4 suckers come up around the "tree" to satisfy the plants needs and cutting everything else off below the gound, as close to the roots as you can. eventually it will slow down but nothing short of killing the plant will make it stop perminently.
