Can you recommend some good books?

| I'm looking for some good resource books on edible landscaping. I have one but it is limited, mostly a review of cultivars and how to grow them. That's great, but I'm looking for a book that emphasizes how to integrate edibles into a pleasing looking landscape, emphasis landscaping, not how to grow edibles. Also info on how to prune and maintain plants in a pleasing shape and arrangement. Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated. |

Some good books....

| There are two authors that I particularly like that thoroughly cover edible landscaping: Rosalind Creasy "The Complete Book of Edible Landscaping" Plus a range of niche gardening and edible landscaping books. Fred Hagy "Landscaping with Fruits and Vegetables" Notably, Rosalind is from the Sacremento, CA area, so her examples and suggestions tend to lean more lean in the direction of plants that grow well in that climate. Fred Hagy is from the Northeast (if I remember correctly), so his examples and suggestions might be more suitable for your PA climate. Either way, both books are loaded with very comprehensive information and are the cornerstone of my edible landscaping book collection. |

| Rosalind Creasy is from the SF Bay Area (south of SF) another great book by a Californian (north of SF) is Robert Kourik, Designing and Maintaining Your Edible Landscape Naturally 1986; republished by Chelsea Green in 2005 http://www.chelseagreen.com/2005/items/ediblelandscape/TableOfContents |

Hi! Thanks for the responses! I have the book by Fred Hagy. It's very good, especially on cultivars, but I need more. I wish there were photos in the Hagy book. I need help on pruning, and ideas for color, texture and form combos that look good in edibles. I get a lot of ideas from copying what I see in books. I've been hesitant to buy books with a west coast orientation, because when I get the Sunset garden books they have a lot in them that doesn't pertain to the east coast. There sure are some great Sunset garden books though. I get envious. Until there's a wildfire or earthquake out there! |

| I love the book "American Horticultural Society Pruning & Training (American Horticultural Society Practical Guides)". It has recomendations on almost all types of shrubs and trees (including berry bushes and fruit trees). I read a lot of books on pruning and training but this one is the best for me. |

I have two older titles I like,"Creative Vegetable Gardening: Accenting Your Vegetables With FLowers" by Joy Larkcom 1997 Abbeville Press and "the complete kitchen garden: the art of de- siging and planting an edible garden " by Patrick Bowe 1996 Macmillan. Both have plenty of photos and plant combinations |
