Need a food-bearing shrub for Mediterranean climate

My husband and I have a organic, permaculture food forest with over 100 fruit and nut trees on about 1/3 acre plus many other edibles. We still have space available for 2 food-bearing understory shrubs between mature plum trees and baby Golden Dorsett apple trees. We already have both strawberry and lemon guava shrubs, so are hoping someone might know of other shrubs that might do well in our Mediterranean coastal climate with alkaline soil (heavy clay)and not too much water. We do use sulphur as an amendment which helps the alkalinity problem somewhat.

Do you have Quince already? It is a small bush that grows a kind of sour pear. It's mostly used for jelly and jam, but can be eaten raw if they get overripe.
