Grow Taro for food in N. Texas?

Can I grow taro for food here in N. Dallas?

Will it reproduce regularly planted in the ground? I don't have a bog, but have a timed irrigation system and water 3-4 times a week and raised beds with compost and peat moss to hold moisture.

Hi,
I don't have an answer to your question, sorry. But I'm trying the same thing in Washington state (Z8). I've got a variety called Bunn Long that many taro experts told me it's hard to kill:-)
Good luck.

I plant grocery store taro almost every year as an ornamental. Tuber production for me is a net loss -- they are usually smaller than what was planted. However, my climate is MUCH cooler than Texas, obviously.

I would try it if I were you. I suspect it might work out just fine. Longer growing season and more heat units.
