paw paws not blossoming

I have a pair of 3-yr-old paw paw trees which are in ground. They seem to be quite healthy, but are only about 2 ft. tall after all this time. The problem is that I've never gotten blossoms. Are they still too immature? I typically fertilize with a water-solluble Miracle-gro. (24-8-16)2 or 3 times during the growing season. Any ideas about what I might be doing/not doing wrong?

| My pawpaws didn't start blooming til 4 years (and that was the grafted ones) the seedling ones haven't bloomed and this is their 5th year. There is a way to look at the twigs (after leaf fall) and see if buds are there for next spring. Look for round buds (the pointed ones will only produce leaves). ~Chills |

Hi Chills, Thanks for the encouragement. So, perhaps mine are not so off-track as I thought. And I will be watching for buds now that they are losing their leaves. May I ask what do you use for fertilizer and how often do you apply it? PJ |
