When we were young, we would grow some leaves that we called ''Verdulagas' They were edible and great tasting. Would any of the latin people here know the english name for this plant?

Thanks

Portulaca oleracea: Purslane, verdolaga

(Not Latin but my workers are and we save the best portulaca weed for their kitchens.)

Marshallz, thanks for responding to my post. I have aquired some purslane seeds, and can`t wait for them to grow.

Maybe a little fear is in order? :)

Purslane can (make that WILL!) become a major weed for you in California. I once had to abandon a garden in which someone had planted "edible purslane" a few years before. Every part of the plant can root. Seed pods yield copious amounts of long-lived seed. The weed seems to inhibit other plants when it crowds the soil surface.

I recommend: harvest before flowering and clean up all fallen leaf and stem parts.
