| That's an extremely cold climate cherry. I am not sure of the required chill hours, but I am 100% sure you don't get them. If the tree doesn't succumb to a humid hot climate disease it isn't resistant to, you may have a beautiful flowering tree -- but no fruit. The lowest chill cherries I am aware of that do well in Alabama are the Black Tartarian and Stella, both need 1000 chill hours and you probably get MAYBE 900 in S. Al and most years much less. (Depends on how far south you are.) I highly recommend Petals from the Past in Jemison, AL for your fruit needs. They are very knowledgeable about growing fruit in this state and will steer you in the right direction and don't sell inappropriate varieties. Also you can taste all the varieties on site from their orchard/vineyards at their classes to be sure you like whatever it is you are about to plant. Seasonally, of course. (I have no affiliation.) |
