Hi Everyone,

I would like to do this again. If there is enough interest for this, I could go and hold the place this year. What are you all thinking, interested?

Hi all , I think the cold weather is holding everyone back this year. It is so cold out there today it isn't any fun being out in the gardens . Anyway barring any unforeseen events I can probably come this year. I will prepare a list of available plants in a little while .

RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

Hello fellow gardeners: I am glad to see news of the exchange / get together up on the board. I am looking forward to seeing you all again and getting my plant fix for the year. I am very flexible with the date so I'll let others decide when is best. Talk with you soon! Ross.

Count me in!

Hello, great to see this thread started!!

Count me in, at least for the gambler's circle. I'm helping three people with their gardens all season, and participating in two plant sales before then, so I plan to do less trading this year. (we'll see how that goes... ;-)

I've got some great salvia seeds on the way and have 400 plugs planted so we'll see what does well.

I'm excited that this year we'll be meeting later, I can finally check out the Old South London 'Gathering on the Green' festival Sat. June 7th. I hear they have good plants for sale!

Looking forward to my Gardener's reunion!

RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

OK, like Signet said , with the weather the way it was this year, it gives us enough time to split plants.

So which day would be better for all
Sat June 21st or Sun June 22nd

Please let me know and will get things started.

Ok I have my first requests. I am looking for everbearing strawberries, grapes...edible and for wine, so all types are welcome. I am also looking for King Edward Yarrow. Mine did not survive not sure why.

If you have any of these to offer let me know what you are looking for in trade.

Thanks
Signet

 o
Looking for perennial greens/edibles

Hello! Anyone have any haskap berry cuttings? Or perennial spinach-like 'Good Kind Henry'? I've been reading about permaculture and am very interested in trading for perennial greens, berries and shrubs. I already have rhubarb, currants, lovage, strawberries, and my favourite herbs. Sadly Asparagus doesn't like black walnuts - it'll put up a stalk or two and then go lovely and ferny. Just got some bloody dock at today (and tomorrow's) Food Not Lawns sale at the London Food Co-op. I have seedlings coming up seemingly by the hour under the grow lights. I'll post a list in a bit once they are transplanted from their small plugs.
Any flowering almond cuttings? Mine got destroyed by the gas company putting in a new line to the house :-(

I vote for the Saturday too!
Cheers,
BlueIris3

Hello all,

FlowerGirl - I'd love some of each of Bela Lugosi, South Seas, Spacecoast Starburst. Hopefully my list in a few days will tempt you!

RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

Hello all! good to see the thread moving along! :)

not sure what will be coming from me this year........last year fell apart about the end of June when a bit of "too vigorous garden renovating" did my back in and it never quite recovered for the rest of the summer. Everything just stayed where it was after that.

This brutal winter has left many established plants either dead or very very sick! Although I only lost one rose, the others are barely hanging on with one or two little shoots on one stalk.

Not sure exactly what I will have to bring, but will post as I find things :(

For now, I have a large bag (garbage sized) of assorted pots,

BlueIris3--I believe I owe you the Vera Jamieson from last year. :)

ETA that I also vote for the Saturday

 o
A request

Does anyone have a hardy hibiscus "Kopper King"? I would love either a piece of root or a rooted cutting. :)

 o
Welcome back GreyLady!

Hi Lois, So sorry to hear that you're dealing with back pain. I'm in that club too, but can manage it by rotating through different positions and limiting myself to at most a 3 hour bout of gardening. To top it off my wrist injury has flared up, so no trowel or hand fork for me. Leverage is my friend with long handled small business end shovels!
I too had much die off - not a single foxglove made it through, and my roses are touch and go.

I'm attempting to root a whole bunch of flowering quince cuttings with willow wands in their pots.

Cheers,
Heather

 o
I've got the signs!

Hi FlowerGirl, I've got the signs, please email me to let me know when you would like to pick them up. Or we can meet part way, but I'd love to show you my spring garden! There are still lots of tulips if the overnight rain didn't flatten them...

Hi Ross,
I too am looking around to see what I can share and will post a list soon. I'm interested in the following from your list:
Mock Orange
Snowball Hydrangea

Hardy Kiwi
Rudbeckia Maya seedlings

I'll post my list soon to see if we can do trades!
Cheers,
BlueIris3

 o
Ross

Hi Everyone - sorry for the duplicate posting, not sure what happened there.

Hi GreyLady!
I too am looking around to see what I can share and will post a list soon. I'm interested in the following from your list:
Annabelle Hydrangea
Phlox Darwin's Joyce (var. leaf)

Was it you who had the flowering almond? If yes, could you try rooting a cutting for me?

Thanks,
BlueIris3

 o
Blueiris3

Your name is on the phlox 'Darwin's Joyce' and an Annabelle hydrangea

I get the leverage...haha.....and I have the broken shovel to prove it! :) (of course it was a very old shovel)

and my pam's choice foxglove that was so big and healthy looking last year (first year) is nothing but a bunch of dead brown leaves with absolutely no signs of life. :(

ETA forgot to say that it wasn't me that had the flowering almond

RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

Just to let you all know. I am not very interested in trades, so don't worry if i have asked for something or offered something, am sure there will be something that we bring you will be interested in.

I know this is a plant swap but I just want us all to get together again and enjoy each others company like we have done year after year

I will be posting a list of what dad and I have as soon as this rain stops and we can get outside to start the clean up.

 o
Is this the 10th anniversary of the swap?

Hi All,

I agree with NavyGirl01 catching up with friends is the best part of the swap!

I joined GardenWeb in 2005 when Bev introduced me to the gang and drove me to Signet's beautiful garden! My understanding is that that was the second year of the swap. If that's correct then this is the 10th anniversary of the gathering!! Yet another reason to celebrate!

Cheers,
Heather/BlueIris3

 o
RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

NavyGirl: I am always interested in new siberian iris varieties. Would you know what variety yours is, or the colour?

Graylady: Did the little peony I gave you last year come up this spring? If not I can replace it with a bigger one. The leaves on the one I got from you got eaten by a rabbit so I was worried but it came up no problem this spring. :)

Want list:

Siberian irises that I don't have (prefer named varieties)
Fernleaf peony
Any bulbs (tulips, lilies, daffodils...)
Dahlias (any other than red pom pom types which I have already)

 o
RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

Ross:
I got you down for Pink Bleeding Heart, Tropical hibiscus and LA Hybrid lily 'Iceberg'. Thank you for the trade.

 o
Flowergirl

The peony is doing very well! :) I potted it up into a large pot last year and let it grow. It did fairly well so I sunk the pot into the garden in the fall and hoped it would survive. about a week ago I thought that maybe I had lost it as there was no sign of anything in the pot. Then it started to grow and it looks great! Good thick healthy looking stems. I will get it into its' permanent spot soon and look forward to when it will bloom.
Glad the peony you got survived the bunnies. :)

The suncrest lilies that I got from you were coming up really well this spring, but now have been eaten off by the ducks that have been hanging around our yard. Hopefully they will move on soon. Today I covered them with upside down plastic strawberry baskets so I hope they recover.

BlueIris tried to call you but number came up as invalid????? Wanted you to know I did try to call .... I copied and pasted number from your email????

Reviewing the lists (over and over ) I cant seem to find who had white bleeding heart... I know I read it ..... ( these lists as we go along get harder and harder to remember as I get older and older LOL ) anyway if anyone has white bleeding heart I would love to work a trade,

Hi Signet,

We have VOIP internet phone service which is a little flaky but way cheap. I'll email you the number again in case I mis typed it.

I am interested in a lot of your stuff, as usual!!
Most of all I would love 2~3 Yvonne's Salvia my old seed isn't germinating and I didn't get any from last years plants
I would also like the following if you find stuff in my upcoming list:
Pennyroyal
Purple monardea
red pixie lily
Daylily Ruby Stella
1~2 Saskatoon berries
1~2 white with peach daffs
Korean purple garlic - to put at the base of my roses, and to eat too!!

Back I out I go to quickly plant the beautiful trades FlowerGirl brought me just now when she picked up the signs.

Cheers,
Heather

NavyGirl , Found out it was you that mentioned White Bleeding Heart but not that you had any for trade. So please disregard the request for White bleeding Heart unless you have oodles in which case I would love a start of it and let me know what you would like in trade ( did that make any sense to you ? lol ...:?)

 o

Hi Heather, I will put your name on the tatarian maple, some(not sure how many are of decent size) ivory silk lilacs, the hosta 'salute' and an annabelle hydrangea. :)

Would I be able to have a pot of purple mums, double daffodils, feverfew (single flower) and some Korean purple garlic if you have any left. If any of those aren't available, then could I have both pots of purple mums please? (or maybe both if you find anything else on my list of interest. ;) thanks

LOL! ETA--nothing exciting I am afraid--Edited To Add. :)

I am interested in your Virginia Bluebells, African Daisy, purple mum, All Star liliums, purple monarda and a pot of White with peach color trumpets daffodils depending if there is any left...if BlueIris gets both that is not a problem...she asked first.

Signet: Sorry about not responding to your request but the truth is I was holding out until you mentioned that you had tulip bulbs to trade??? Do you happen to have any this year? any colour or any size?...I need some as fillers in bare areas that I noticed this spring. Of course you can have some Ligularia seedlings and a division of Oregano and I will choose something else off your list another time. Thanks. Ross.

Luckynes; I guess I will have a difficult time trying to get that Lobelia inflata into my hanging basket!! It looks like an interesting plant though so if there is something else on my list that you would like..let me know. Thanks .Ross.

BlueIris: You had mentioned that you owed me a trade! Was that because you requested two Kerria? If so I would be interested in a Veronica Spicata if available. Thanks. Ross.

 o
Signet & Ross

Hi Signet,

Most of the trades are on, except the Agastache Heather Queen and A. Cana which are already spoken for. By my count that leaves me one more trade from you. We both know we will do lots more trades before the day!! :-)

Hi Ross - the Veronica Spicata is set aside for you!

Ross, no problem . I will look around but the tulips don't seem to have done well/survived all this rain this year. The clay soil is so saturated that what did come up is not looking as nice or as healthy as they normally do however , I have not been everywhere looking as we have had so much clean up to do this spring after losing all the ash trees that I truly have just not had the time to look. I will get back to you on this .

 o

Hi Signet, I will put the veronica 'Eveline' aside for you.
The daylily "might" be one that I got from you several years ago, but because I have lost the tags for one reason or another (squirrels, digging?...) I am not sure what one this is.....it is in a clump of three.....anzac, siloam uri winniford and one other that I have no idea what it is! I believe that I know which one is the siloam uri winniford, so this will either be anzac or the mystery one...........no idea which is which...........let me know if you are still interested. :)

Lois; I just went outside and checked on my Lady's Mantle. I can get you a piece from it but it will only be about the size of a plant in a 4" pot. If that is OK you are welcome to it..but please feel free to entertain another offer of a larger specimen if it comes up. Ross.

 o
RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

Thank you so much for looking, Ross. If you are okay with taking a small piece from your plant, then I would love it. It grows so well that it will be a nice big plant in no time. I can't believe that mine died out over the winter, but I am finding new things daily that are either not here or are very, very sick. Even stranger, is the fact that some things are doing better than ever.

I hope there is something on my list that you will take in exchange. Not sure if there will be any additions, ....didn't get out today and not likely tomorrow either according to the weather report.

Lois: No problem! My Lady's Mantle has been in the same spot for some 4-5 years but has never really gotten any bigger.Maybe I have it in the wrong place? Anyway I will pot up the division for you,and hopefully by swap date it will have bulked up a bit! Is your small Goatsbeard still available? Thanks. Ross.

BTW: That winter was indeed harsh on the plants. I have even had to cut my shrub rose almost too the ground to get to the healthy growth. I have also noticed that some of my lillies have disappeared from their spots. Winter kill or squirrels?.I don't know!

 o
RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

Thanks Ross, but if your plant will suffer for taking a piece, please don't do it. I had my plant in a fairly shady spot although it would get peaks of sun for brief periods in the morning. I will put the dwarf goatsbeard aside for you.

My 'bonica' shrub rose that I have had for years and was a big vigorous grower, has mostly died off. there are only two canes that have green for about five inches at the bottom. I haven't cut it down yet but hope to tackle it on the next nice day. No shoots showing yet but I hope they will start once it is cleaned up.

Lois: I have taken a small division of my lady's mantle for you .Don't worry it will not bother my plant. While I was at it I took another small piece and relocated it to another part of the garden to see if I can have any better success with it than I have had for the past 4 or 5 years in its current spot. We shall see! Thank you for the trade of the Goastsbeard. Ross

Heather: Don't worry about the no go on the tulips. It was just a thought as I was looking for a spring filler for a bare patch. Do you happen to have any of the Red Pixie Lily left in exchange for the Ligularia and the Oregano Division.?.Let me know. Ross.

 o
Signet and Ross

Signet, it looks like Ross was successful and has already taken a division of his lady's mantle, so unless you are over run with it, no need to bring any for me, but thank you for offering. :)

Ross, I appreciate your offer and thank you. I hope that your plant takes off and grows well with as little suffering as possible.

 o
FlowerGirlOn

Hello Merja, I'll do this backwards. ;-)
I would like to trade for as many daylilies as you can find things you want in my updated list coming tomorrow night. With the exception of these ones that I already have: bela lugosi, south seas, spacecoast starburst, autumn red, purple waters. Sorry if this sounds greedy, I'm just cuckoo for cocoa puffs over daylilies now! The tulip tree is reaching for the sky as is the neighbour's autumn blaze maple on the lot line, so I need to adapt to part sun out front. I have many colours of iris, from snow white through to dark purple/black (no convincing reds -but that's still the breeder's holy grail, like a truly blue rose). I now know how to treat them for root borer - steep them in a mild bleach solution to kill the grubs.

Hope you find lots to like in my upcoming list!!!
cheers,
Heather/BlueIris3

Hi Blueiris. Just an Fyi for optimum bloom your daylilies need at least 6 hours of sunligjt. Yes most will still bloom in part sun but will not perform optimally.. In regards to your request to visit before swap. I am sorry but right now I cant promise to be available. Just too much going on. Perhaps we can talk about a visit at the swap and if difficult for you to bring trades we have worked out to the swap maybe we can do it after too.

Ross its a yes to the Red Pixie Lilies thanks for the trade

Flowergirl I am interested in your dayliliies Snowy Eyes and FinalTouch please. I seem to remember you were interested inn the daylily First knight I could offer you a dble fan of that one and if you have a suggestion of others I can check to see if I have any that interest you in trade the other one. Let me know.

Signet

I got you down for daylilies Snowy Eyes and Final Touch. I would love to have your daylily First Knight, thank you. For the other one maybe Cafe Mocha if you have that. For the one peony we talked about I could take a daylily also if it works for you. I could take any one of these: Pagan Ritual, Grand Floridian...If daylily doesn't work for you, maybe an iris. Let me know.

Blueiris:
Works for me. I owe you four plants at the moment I believe.

RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

Signet:
I added 'Indy Bliss' on your list. There is enough.

Lois:
I still owe you a trade.

I will have a few portulaca seedlings. They are still fairly small (3 cm) but who knows what happens in a month.

 o
Nyssaman

Hello all,

Jeff replied to my email - he and Colleen hope to come to visit but Nyssaman is too busy to do trades this year.

I tried emailing Barb_from_London and Didzgarden but I don't have valid emails for them anymore. I hope someone else can reach them.

Cheers,
Heather

hi Heather, I have a small mountain ash seedling, approx six to eight inches tall i believe.....can look tomorrow if you are interested. Mountain ash are not true ash trees so they are not susceptible to the emerald ash borer. I also MAY have a small dark purple lilac. I will look tomorrow to see if it survived the winter.

RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

I sent an e-mail to didzgarden....no reply, but she is very busy with two little ones so she may not be able to get much gardening in. We would love to see you MK if you see this! :)

I did hear back from gardeng8, but she has a previous commitment for the date of the swap. Was hoping to be able to re-arrange things but might not have been able to. Would love to see you too Carol! :)

 o
Flowergirl

could I please have some columbine 'red star' seedlings for the hosta 'fire and ice'?
thanks :)

Merja: I will set aside some Calendula for you in exchange for the Floribunda. Thanks. Ross.

Lois: I meant to tell you but keep forgetting ....Do you remember trading a small White Birch sapling to me? ...well I am sorry to say that it did not survive this brutal winter in my coldframe. I had high hopes to transform that into a bonsai at some point in the future. It was one among many casualties of this past winter season.

 o
RE: WANTED: Are we holding the Springbank Park Plant Exchange ag

Lois:
I'll bring some columbine 'Red Star' seedlings for you for the hosta. Thank you for the trade.

Ross:

Signet I believe you were asking for some everbearing strawberries. I don't know how you tell the difference between the types but I know most of the strawberries I have are everbearing. I had 2 types and somehow over the past couple years they have mixed. I am downsizing my strawberry patch. Was wondering if you would like to trade some plants for a deep purple Iris and or purple mum?

 o

Dinnerpl8Dahlia

Your name is on the perennial candytuft, daylily rocket city, Aster Alma Potschke, Hosta so sweet (I 'think' this is so sweet----but so many of them look the same....) looks like it and it is really a nice hosta.....takes a lot of sun in the spot it is in.

Is your phlox the tall or short?.....no matter, I would like one or two either way, and if you have a peony, and a daisy, I would love that too! :)
thanks so much.
