HAVE: Intl. Cristmas Traditions Quiz - Winner gets veggies

Ok, I can't help myself. I want to give away more seeds, this time veggie seeds, but you have to work for it again. The first person to correctly guess the international locations that have these Christmas traditions will receive a surprise pack with 25 different types of veggie seeds.

--------------------

Mystery Location #1 - St. Nicholas is dressed in Bishop's robes and journeys in a boat with his helper who is called Black Peter and who wears Spanish clothes.

Mystery Location #2 - Their main Christmas celebration is a religious procession that reenacts the search for shelter by Joseph and Mary before the birth of Jesus. During the procession, the celebrants go from house to house carrying the images of Mary and Joseph looking for shelter.

Mystery Location #3 - Children wander from house to house carrying a colored star on a long pole, and singing carols.

Mystery Location #4 - Here, people believe that Father Christmas brings presents on each of the 12 days of Christmas starting on Christmas Eve. Usually the presents are put under the family Christmas tree. The first Christmas tree was decorated here as well.

Mystery Location #5 - In this country, according to tradition, St. Nicholas's clothes are drenched with brine, his beard drips with seawater, and his face is covered with perspiration because he has been working hard against the waves to reach sinking ships and rescue them from the angry sea. Here, ships never leave port without some sort of St. Nicholas icon on board.

Mystery Location #6 - Young men in extravagant dress, sometimes wearing masks, parade noisily through the streets in the Wren Boys' Procession. They carry long pole on top of which is attached a holly bush. The bush supposedly contains a captured wren, and for whose sake the young men beg for money.

Mystery Location #7 - People that live in this country attend a daily early morning church service between December 16th and 24th. In their capital city, it is customary to roller-skate to this service and many neighborhoods close the streets to cars until 8 a.m. Before bedtime children tie one end of a piece of string to their big toe and hang the other out the window. The next morning, rollerskaters give a tug to any string they see hanging.

Mystery Location #8 - On Christmas Eve, Christian families gather together and one of the children read about the birth of Jesus while other family members hold lighted candles. Afterward the reading, a bonfire of thorn bushes is let and everyone sings. If the thorns burn to ashes, good luck will be granted for the coming year. When the fire dies, each person jumps over the ashes three times and makes a wish.

Please post your answers here. Good luck.

Correction. The winner gets veggie, melon and herb seeds, not just veggie seeds My apologies for misspelling Christmas in the subject line. If my grandmother was still with us...she'd give me a big smack upside the head.

Looking forward to giving away these seeds.

Thanks...Heather

Hi Lois,

Your seeds were retuned to me today, so I'l be remailing them tomorrow. Somehow our darlings at Canada Post managed to rip off the mailing label, which I had double taped on with packing tape.

Sorry for the delay. Glad they managed to keep my return address on the envelope :)

thanks for letting me know. Hopefully this time will be okay. You have to wonder how hard they had to work to get the label off! I have really had to pick at the tape and then destroyed some envelopes trying to get the label off when trying to reuse it. :)
