WANTED: Chionanthus virginicus

I'm looking for seed of the native fringe tree (Chionanthus virginicus, not the Chinese species C. retusus). I've only harvested a couple of varieties pf seed from my garden this year, but will be collecting many, many more as the year progresses. I'm trying to arrange a trade as these seeds need a long period of warm-cold-warm treatment to germinate next spring. Please let me know if you have these and would be willing to arrange a trade. Some of the natives I will be collecting are Aruncus dioicus, Cimicifuga racemosa, Zizia aptera, Vernonia gigantea, Lobelia siphilitica, Lobelia cardinalis. I also have a long list of 2005 seeds I can send you. Thanks!

| One of my C.virginicus has a bumper fruit crop this year--probably ready late Sept. if that works for you. I've only ever "propagated" these by letting them drop fruit in fall and then collecting seedlings. I know they have a double dormancy--kind of a pain but they're nice shrubs. I'd like to try some Camassia if you have some available. Thanks, Christine |
