have: huge yew to trade or give away in ct

I have a huge yew in my front yard (maybe 15 feet) which has been trimmed by deer around the bottom but is otherwise healthy. I have no idea what it is worth, but am willing to trade it for some smaller plants or even give it away (whatever you think is fair). Would be happy to provide photos upon request.

Thanks!

Laura

Laura:

Just to let you know, they are tough to dig up & transplant, I've made the attempt several times on alot smaller plants (3'-6') and I have a small backhoe!. I wound up scrapping them as I could'nt get enough root system. Good luck in your endeavor.

Laura,

My two cents: I agree that yews are tough to dig up. We removed two established yews (about 3 feet) a few years ago. My husband was able to dig up the smaller one himself, but we had to pull the other out with a truck.

The good news is that they settled into their new home easily and are now thriving. One even survived some drastic "vehicular pruning" the first winter in its new location.
