THIS is THE 2010 OLY TRADE. NOT THE OTHER 2009 ones that have been replied to and bumped.

Judy thanks for fixing my mistake. Guess I shouldn't try posting so late. Teresa |
RE: Olympia Spring Trade Date Set

Thanks. Is there also another trade at the same location in May 2010, the Saturday before Mother's Day ?

No, the Mothers' Day weekend trade was for 2009. The 2010 trade is set for April 24th. For some reason, both my 2009 and my 2010 trades are posted near the top. Does anyone know how to get my 2009 posting deleted or at least moved down in priority?
RE: Olympia Spring Trade Date Set
| | |
I don't know other than clicking "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page and seeing if the owners will help. Otherwise I think the only way is to keep bumping this one to the top.
RE: Olympia Spring Trade Date Set
| | |
Ok, now maybe this will stay closer to the top, if no one posts to the old 09 one.
RE: Olympia Spring Trade Date Set
| | |
It seems the more responses a post has, the more it moves up to the top. Doing my part. Jim

Thanks to all for helping me move this post up. I appreciate the support in spirit, even if you can't attend in person. Hope to catch up with those of you I miss this time at my September trade.
RE: Olympia Spring Trade Date Set

Attended last year and can't wait to attend again this spring. Potting up stuff. Will be bringing a few pink water lilies if I can brave the cold of the fish pond before mid summer.

Looking forward to it!! Mike

Yay! I'm getting psyched! Can't wait. I'll be updating my page in the next couple of weeks. I'm still waiting for signs of life on some of my shrubs and perennials. In Olympia, I'm 2 weeks to a month behind many people. Keep checking back.
RE: Olympia Spring Trade Date Set

Looking forward to this, I've never attended. I did go to the swap that plantknitter hosted last May. We've moved since then and are now closer to Olympia. I don't know what I'll have to trade. We just had our back yard completely redone and all I have are empty beds. I'll find something to bring, even if it's just a few plants started from seed.

Hey, can you share the address for this place? I came last year and recall it being Yelm-ish but I need specifics so I can convince my mom to come from the Aberdeen area. :) Thanks!

Could address be posted for the Olympia April 24 trade? I have a huge collection of pots (all sizes) & trays (2 sizes, several different patterns of holes) donated to our non-profit camp in Auburn for my gardening efforts in zone 7 foothills at over 500ft. I will generously trade these supplies for any labeled plants that are: *low-maintenance (don't need a lot of fussing such as deadheading, cutting back, or dividing every 2 years to look good) *drought tolerant once established *container plants for established whiskey barrels or hanging pots *okay in rocky, clay soil *evergreen groundcovers & shrubs (cuttings okay) *all the various light conditions & moisture as well, though many places are part shade. **if at all possible pot up well enough to hold until Memorial Day Family Camp volunteers can transplant them. If not, make it obvious to me which plants need re-potting or heeled in compost. Please label plants w/ at least a common name. If possible add light level sun, part sun, shade. If the plant doesn't take PM sun indicate that as well. Corrine

The address for the trade is 8005-1 Thrulake Circle SE. Olympia, WA 98513. Anyone needing directions can call me on my cell at 360-970-2868. The trade begins at 10:00 AM. From North of Olympia: 1. Exit I-5 at exit 116. If headed southbound, turn left at the top of the ramp. If headed northbound, turn right at the top of the ramp. This puts you on Mounts Road, which becomes Nisqually Road, which is also the Old Pacific Highway further along. 2. Follow that road (40 MPH zone) over a curved bridge, over the Nisqually River, through the town of Nisqually (35 MPH zone), past Reservation Road (50 MPH zone) to State Route 510. At the stop sign, turn left (your lane will be slightly uphill) - there is a pull-out lane to facilitate merging onto Hwy 510. 3. Follow Hwy 510 to Meridian Road and turn right. (Note: Meridian road is on the outside curve of the road, and this is where people get lost - they overshoot it. If you find yourself at the Red Wind Casino, you went too far. Turn around and follow directions as if coming from Yelm.) 4. Turn left at TriLakes Market and Gas Station onto Spurgeon Creek Road. 5. Follow Spurgeon Creek Road to 80th. Turn right. 6. The clubhouse is dead ahead, at the top of the hill. You do not have a stop sign, so pull straight into the parking area and find a place to park. From South of Olympia: 1. Take Exit 108. On the ramp, there are 3 exits. Stay left and take the last exit which becomes 3rd Ave SE. 2. Go to the light and turn right onto College Street. 3. Travel for about 8 miles on College Street. At 45th, there is a traffic circle. Take the 2nd exit to stay on College Street. 4. Go to 2nd light after traffic circle. There is a Safeway on the left and a Lowe’s on the right. Turn left onto Yelm Highway. 5. Get in right lane of Yelm Highway and take right turn at 2nd light onto Ruddell Road. 6. On Ruddell Road, bear left to get back onto Yelm Highway. After the road straightens out, you will see the AmTrak Station below and to your left from the bridge over the railroad tracks. Continue straight. 7. Continue to TriLakes Market and Gas Station at Corner of Yelm Highway and Spurgeon-Creek Road. Turn right onto Spurgeon-Creek Road. 8. Follow Spurgeon Creek Road to 80th. Turn right. 9. The clubhouse is dead ahead, at the top of the hill. You do not have a stop sign, so pull straight into the parking area and find a place to park. From Yelm: 1. Take Highway 510 toward Olympia. Follow the signs to Tumwater and Lacey, which will have you turn left onto the Yelm Hwy. 2. Follow the Yelm Highway until you see the TriLakes Market and Gas Station, on the left. 3. Turn left at TriLakes Market and Gas Station onto Spurgeon Creek Road. 4. Follow Spurgeon Creek Road to 80th. Turn right. 5. The clubhouse is dead ahead, at the top of the hill. You do not have a stop sign, so pull straight into the parking area and find a place to park.

For those of you watching the Highway Construction news for the Lacey area, there will be construction between Exits 109 and 116 three weekends beginning this weekend and finishing up the weekend of the trade. That weekend, Southbound lanes will be unaffected. However, all Northbound lanes will be completely closed. The News said the closure was from Exit 109 all the way to Exit 116, but the WSDOT website says the closure is between Exits 111 and 114. Either way, if you are coming from south of Olympia, and you follow the above directions, you exit before the detour (although you might get caught in the back-up). Leaving the trade, Southbound travelers won't encounter any construction at all. Northbound travelers will be fine if they go back the way they came, which puts them entering the freeway at Exit 116, above the end of the construction zone. I have included a link to the WSDOT Website for that weekend's project. (NOTE: If you do decide to take the detour, there is one thing the WSDOT map does not show, and that is a traffic circle near the WalMart. If you find yourself in that traffic circle, take the 2nd exit, go to the light, and turn right onto Marvin Road. Follow the map as drawn.) I am updating my page, and will soon have a partial list of the items I have available. Tammy (bejoy2)

I'll be there! I'm trying to get my mother in law to come as well. She has an enormous perennial garden and I offered to help her divide and pot things up if she'll come to the swap :-)

OOPS! I goofed on the directions. I tried to simplify them from last year, so I cut out a lot. Too much, as it turns out. The mistake is in the directions from Northbound I-5. Here are the corrected directions: From North of Olympia: 1. Turn around and follow directions as if coming from Yelm.) 3a. Follow Meridian Road to the Yelm Highway. You will see the Evergreen Valley Grocery Store and Gas Station across the highway. Turn right onto the Yelm Highway. 4.

We're hoping to be there - as they used to say down home in Texas "the good Lord willing and the creek don't rise". I don't know yet what I'll be bringing, but they'll all be freebies anyway. Are you planning a pot luck? We're looking forward to seeing everybody again.

Should we bring food as well as plants? Coffee? Supplies of any kind? Name tags, etc.?

By all means, let's have a potluck. There is a complete kitchen and dining area. Barb, I'm so glad you and Don are able to come. I was starting to worry when I didn't hear. You are always so generous with your freebies, is there anything I have that you want? My list is posted on My Page. Remember, I-5 North will be closed, either at Exit 109 or 111, and the backup is predicted to be several miles long. It might be worth researching alternate cross-country routes through Tenino or Maytown, or other points south. I have driven between my house and my brother's house in Chehalis many times using the back roads, and it really doesn't take that much longer than the freeway. Something to consider. We'll wait for you, no matter how long it takes. See you there. Tammy

Potluck is great idea! Be there early to get one of our famous oatmeal cookie bars. Everyone asks for recipe, so I'll have copies. We have to be back to Auburn for a 4:30pm benefit dinner, so not sure if we can stay long to chat. Depends on that silly traffic thing... Corrine & James white Suburban |
