| does anyone have any info on where to get small size compost bin? The ones I checked out were huge ones, 50 gallons or so I think. thanks |

| You can make one out of a trash can of any size or even the smaller rain barrel types. Just drill holes in it for air and water to be released. Or you could make it out of wood. I made a really large one out of pallets, but you could copy the design and shrink it. |

| the rolling kinds are said to be easier in that you don't have as much work in turning the pile. I've created a 2 bin system so that I fork one pile into the 2nd nearby bin wait 2 weeks and then send the pile back to the original bin. It takes up more space but works really well. I have a more compact "city" compost bin, but it is horrible to empty and stir around. They make aerators for these types of bins that help some. It just means it takes longer for the compost to be "finished". I empty it 2 times a year into my garden beds and then just cover it with a couple of inches of dirt so it can finish off quicker. Then the compost is right at root level. come find me tomorrow and I'll show you. |
