I'll be interested in seeing if anyone comes up with a valid suggestion on this one. Big leaves seem typically to require at least reasonable moisture and often, LOTS of moisture, to maintain. Big leaves offer a lot of space for transpiration...if they give up a lot of moisture, they have to be able to replace it. I can't think of any plants native to sunny, dry places that have big leaves.

I have Telekia speciosa, might that fit your needs? If so, I can get one to you at the benefit plant sale for LeeAnna's daughter to be held in late May in Seattle. I also have Macleaya cordata, Plume Poppy, but that is simply tall, the foliage might not be bold enough for your needs.

I think any Canna would fill the bill. They can be pretty neglected and still thrive. My dad has had a patch for years and it has survived many Louisiana summers including those with drought with little to no watering.

OK. I will compromise, maybe a perennial that is not evergreen but bold and beautiful?
