If you decide to remove it rather than prune it, be aware that a tree that size needs special measures to improve the likelihood of survival when transplanted.

Kudzu9 is correct. If you can't get a tree root baller, then the removal should ideally be done in two steps: First, cut the roots just outside the dripline with a sharp spade. This is a good time of year to do it, because it is actively growing, and the tree will grow new roots behind the cuts quickly, which will increase the chances of a successful transplant. Even better if you can give it some transplant fertilizer to stimulate root growth and minimize shock. Second, this fall, go ahead and dig it up, getting as much soil as you can on the roots. Put the whole shebang onto a tarp and tie it up to retain the soil during transport. Then - When you plant it, take some of the native soil with you, dig the hole about 1.5 times as big as the hole it came out of. Put native soil in the hole and mix it in with the soil in the hole. This mitigates the transition zone in the soil which could discourage the tree from sending new roots into the surrounding soil.
