WANTED: Cheap source of metal tree tags?

Posted by keithruck Monroe/Snoho (My Page) on

As I keep expanding my garden, I'm on the edge of losing track of which plants are which. I haven't had good luck with plastic, but two of the fig trees I got recently came with nice metal tags (aluminum I think). I can get them on the internet, but I don't need 1000 at a time; does anyone know of a local (reasonably priced) source for metal tags? I have an engraver, so I'm all set once I find some tags.

Thanks!
Keith

p.s. the main part of my PVC greenhouse is done, I just need to lift the roof on, then buy some greenhouse plastic- I'll post pics once I've got it assembled!

keithruck-
Generally, everything I need for gardening I can find at a really good price at Steuber Distributing Company in Snohomish. Have you tried them?

And if you want really cheap, you can always use a tin snips on aluminum cans to make your own tags. If you want something classier, you can also probably get thin aluminum sheet at a metal supplier and cut that up.

Thanks kudzu- I'm still new enough to the area, I haven't heard about Steuber- I'll check them out. I had considered going the aluminum can route, but was worried about the sharp edges eventually cutting me, or worse, some plant I really like :)

keithruck-
The Steuber store looks totally unimpressive...until you go inside and see the variety and the prices. Have fun!
