I have had great luck with Erica. Heath & heather are drought & cold tolerant evergreens, keep down weeds, and look terrific with little or no maintenance. I don't have any to share, unfortunately, but Molbaks has 4" as well as gallon sizes. (Not a plug for them, I have no affiliation to the company.)

I recommend staying away from cotoneaster. It's short lived and looks dreadful after a few years - green only at the tips of long branches. It's also a pain in the neck to remove because it roots wherever it touches the ground.

Thanks for the suggestion Wanda. I actually have a couple of heathers that I wouldn't mind moving and I just might move them to the community area!! :-)

I've seen how cotoneaster looks when not maintained and it's not a pretty sight. In fact I pass by a subdivision entrance on my way to work and it has completely taken over the whole thing.
