WANTED: Have/Want List

Posted by drfugawe z8 OR (My Page) on

Greetings,
I'm stuck down here in SW Oregon and don't like the idea of 4+ hour driving to get to swaps - so, I'm looking for mail traders.

Haves (Cuttings):
* Nice Amity red raspberry cuttings - Amity is a fall producer, actually twice annually if you don't cut all canes in fall. Can provide rooted cuttings in spring, if desired.
* Pineapple Guava (evgrn)cuttings - supposedly chancy in NW, but mine (Z8) have never blinked during our frosts.
* Desert King fig cuttings - hearty, prolific here - loses leaves but does not die back.
* Philadelphus. mexicanus - cuttings
* Wisteria: cuttings of floridunda "Rosea", and venusta "Purple"
* very limited supply of "young" rooted sour orange (Seville) seedlings - I'm convinced I can grow these outside here - they take good amount of cold!

Haves (Seeds):
* Brandiwine tomato seed - came from 3lb mother - strong, prolific plants this year!
* Blue Lake pole green bean seed (OP)- tied a lot, can't find better.
* Walla-Walla onion seed - my first save of onions!
* Metachi and Kilarney Red garlic (heads)

Wants:
* Cutting from a male Hayward Kiwi
* Shade and Semi-Shade perennials
* various heirloom veg and flower seeds

Thanks for considering,
John

Hi John,
I'd be interested in the Desert King fig cuttings. Do you know if they'll root this time of year? Take a look at my list. Thanks.

RE: WANTED: Have/Want List

Tom,
Toogood (Plant Propagation, '99, pg 50) says cuttings of current year's fig hardwood root well in autumn right after leaf fall, which is just happening now - He suggests outdoor rooting overwinter of 8 -9 inch cuttings. This is an agressive 3 yr old tree about 10 ft tall now (as opposed to the Brown Turkey next to it, which was planted at the same time and died back to the ground in a not-especially-cold first winter). The Desert King was well on its way to a second fruiting this summer, but ran out of time!

Are you growing your Brugs and Datura outside? What's your experience? I've got three brugs I'm trying outside this year - I've covered them with a thick blanket of alfalfa hay. We usually have 15-20 frost nights, a night or two around 25 deg, but it could of course go colder on occassion. What's your lows? If you think they'll make it with protection, I'd love to try a datura. Whata'ya think?

I would love to try some of your pineapple guava and fig. I have Heirloom tomatoes, a few green zebra, some black prince, perhaps another. I also have heirloom carrots and spinach. Take a look at my list, see if anything intrests you.

Garden web trade list...guava ??? I have grapes

Hi John,
Wondering if you have any guava to trade. I have quite a few vegetable seeds, I just started.

Do you have any thornless raspberry?

I have lots of veggie seeds, I also have himrod, concord, interlaken and suffolk red grape cuttings. Check out my list and see if there is anything you want to trade.

Thanks,
Lisa
