You are invited to a Winter Seed-Sowing
Saturday, January 17, 1:00-3:00 PM.

Church of the Holy Cross
11526 162nd Ave NE
Redmond, WA 98052

Driving Directions

I have a big bag of seeds gathered this fall. Many of you have seeds too. January is a good time to winter sow perennials for spring germination.

If you have never tried winter sowing, you will be amazed at the good results. It has to be the easiest way to fill your garden with new plants. There is a Winter Sowing Forum on the Garden Web for more info.

You can bring spent poinsettias for sowing. Just cut off the top and sow your seeds on the poinsettia soil.

I have plenty of 4-inch pots, and a large container of sifted compost. Bring whatever other pots and seeds you'd like to try.

This is an indoor event. We'll meet in the parish hall of the church. So no freezing in the rain!

Questions. Comments.

Hi Jim,
I'm coming, with a friend. How many are you expecting? Do you need anything?

The best thing to bring is seeds of your favorite perennials to share.

I could use some help setting up and taking down. I plan to do this with whomever arrives first.

I have lots of 4-inch pots with flats, but you may want to bring something else too. I like to sow in gallons, for example, then I don't have to transplant.

Last year we had about 15 people for the event, so it's a less hectic/haggling atmosphere than the swap.

Thanks for asking and for bringing a friend.

Jim

How did the Winter Seed Sowing day go? I sure wish I could have been there, but I did spend the day wintersowing in my coldframe so it wasn't a wasted day.

I believe seven of us got together for winter seed sowing--indoors was a great improvement. Everyone helped set up and take down. A good selection of at least 100 different species seeds. Room for up to 25 people.

Lots of leftover dirt, pots, seeds and labels. Thanks for asking.

Jim
