This Dawn Redwood, (Metasequoia glyptostroboides.)
is one of the original trees grown from the first seed collected in China after living members of this species was discovered in 1941.

Isn't it grand!

That's beautiful! Right out of a fairy tale...I can just see me curled up in a root with a good book on a warm breezy July afternoon :)

Toots, exactly, right out of a fairy tale.

I would love to grow this tree as well.

Seeing the Dawn Redwood trees with all their roots reminds me of the Mangrove trees we saw in southern Florida in the Everglade National Park last Feb. The trees just keep putting down roots and growing more trees that way and slowly get larger and larger. Putting down roots the way that they do also keep themselves attached when a hurricane comes. It was a very interesting boat tour through the everglades down at Flamingo.

Here is a closer picture of all their roots.

I wonder just how old that Redwood and Angel Oak are? From the looks of them, I think they're a tree that you plant for your grandchildren to enjoy. But the shape of them is incredibly beautiful!

Brenda, we saw those Mangrove trees when we did a couple of river rafting tours in Jamaica. They certainly form an impenetrable barrier, don't they?
