Our Far North Baby Book

Posted by luv2gro z3a AB (My Page) on

Here's a thread where our new moms/dads-to-be and our new grandmas/grandpas-to-be can post updates to keep us all informed. Just our own little baby forum within our garden forum.

Verena, Gil, Marcia, Shelley - what's the latest? Let's see those ultrasounds. Anyone else with upcoming additions? What's the latest trend in baby booties this year? Remind us all of the due dates and then we can start our countdowns and time/sex/name guessing. For the rest of us, if we find an interesting tidbit of information that would be useful to our new moms, we can pass it on.

Follow-Up Postings:

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

OK...twist my arm ;o) The revised due date is September 8th. This was the ultra sound at 9 weeks. For those unfamiliar with U/S photos, the head is on this ---> side (with the little buggy looking eyes, and the little arms and legs are sticking up with the tiny bum on that <--- side. :o)

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Yesterday Devon and Jake were here. I got to see the belly in person again and my has it grown. I'm thinking it is a boy. But I was wrong with every one of my 5 kids and my first grand baby as well. So it will likely be a girl.(I'm still sticking with a boy) The due date is June 19, 2 days after my youngest daughters birthday. It would be sweet if she had it on the 17th. Kenzie would be so proud.

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Eddie and Sandy showed us an ultrasound pic a few weeks ago. It was pretty hard to make out and "nothing" was showing, so we still don't know if it's a boy or a girl. Their due date is June 17th, the day after my sister-in-law. Shelley, it would be funny if they came on the same date, eh? :)

I really don't know what to make for this baby. She will be born in summer (i'm still hoping for a girl!), so she won't need a lot of clothes, and besides, Sandy has been buying little outfits already. I have a blanket made and a little dress that will fit when she's a year or so old. Maybe i'll just crochet a some sweaters for fall wear, dunno.

They haven't chosen a name yet - or maybe they aren't telling me! At first they were going to choose a name starting with "E" because Sandy's two kids' names start with "S" as well. I think that's changed, even though Savannah and i searched an internet baby name site and came up with all kinds of suggestions!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

If I can pass this on, one of the absolute best sweaters my mom made for my kids was a hooded one that zipped down on the back. You just laid the baby down, put the sweater on, lifted baby and zipped. It was really, really handy and terrific for the fall weather. It was made out of a medium weight yarn - Red Heart? or something similar. Here's a couple that I found, not quite the same, though. I'm not a very talented knitter so I don't know how good these are. But, you can get the idea, anyway.

http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/babyswezipback.htm
http://www.knitting-crochet.com/found/hooswefou.html

They aren't quite the same as the ones mom made - is anything ever as good? - and she transposed the pattern into several different sizes. That was 26 years ago, but I definitely would recommend them for babies now, too.

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Shauna, i'll send those on to my sister who knits. I just crochet. After i posted last night, i looked around and found patterns for a sweater and a little cap. I have all kinds of baby wool around here, so i'm going to dig it out and see what can be used.

Thanks for the patterns!

Marcia, the second link that Shauna gave for the pattern had a link you could click to go to another page where you could order a book that was called 'How to Exchange Knitting to Crochet or Crochet to Knitting'. Maybe you could do an interlibrary loan and find it? Then you could crochet one yourself. Just an idea.

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Verena, love the ultrasound! Usually I can't see a thing but yours looks like a baby alright. I'm so jealous you got an ultrasound at 9 weeks, I don't even get to see a doctor for the first time until 12 weeks. >:0(

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Thanks, Syreeta - i could do it, but i probably won't. :) My sister is a great knitter and she needs some new and exciting patterns. Speaking of which, i need to locate all the nice things she made for our kids....

Gil, Sandy couldn't get into a doctor until January and she got pregnant in September. About the same time frame, i guess. She didn't worry a lot, though, because it's her third so she had an idea of what's going on. They really should get you in earlier. Our medical system ain't what it's cracked up to be!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I love that ultra sound Verena! Don't they look so snuggly in there? Too cute!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

buggy looking eyes

Ahhhhhhhh Verena, I wonder if your baby will look like this!

Isn't he cute!

Sharon

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

ROTFL Sharon!! That's quite the pic!!

Gil, I only got in that quickly because my 'schedule' is not so evenly scheduled. (I could have been 3+ months along before I even started to suspect, if I wasn't enjoying morning sickness ;o). They had to do an U/S right away for dates (since some of the testing, if you're going to get it, has to be done between 15 and 18 wks), but I didn't have my actual first prenatal visit until 12 wks.

It is kind of nice though! Getting to see the little 'peanut' and seeing that the heart is doing it's job sure takes a lot of worry out of the last of the 1st trimester. I'm scheduled for my next one toward the end of April.

Sooo much fun...I'd post 'bump' pictures, but then everyone would start asking if I'm due next week. :oP (It's pretty funny actually, my 'bump' is almost as big as my sister-in-laws, and she goes in for a C-section on Friday!!)

Verena

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Twins, Verena? :> We've been teasing Sandy about twins for months! One of my friends comments every time she sees Sandy - really confused her since she didn't know my friend at all! LOL Now she can laugh. Yesterday she said it felt like twins. Oh, and the other day she videotaped her "bump" rolling around in there! LOL

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Is your SIL jealous of your bump, Verena? I have a cousin who was really annoyed that she stayed so small. People only started asking if she was expecting in her last month, and then she'd be at church the next week with a baby. I wasn't so lucky. With my 3rd, my neighbor asked if I was expecting at 5 weeks!
Connie

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

One thing I have learned is that sometimes you can't say the right thing to a pregnant woman. She freaks out if she's too big or too small or you don't mention it at all, or if you try to touch it (I have never tried to touch a pregnant belly but apparently people do). I also have a cousin who barely looked pregnant and got told that so many times she cried to me that she thought something was wrong with the baby. But she was very tall so it didn't stick out much. Oh yeah and Verena, I've heard that with pregnancies after your first, you show sooner because all the ligaments and things are more relaxed.

I will try not to be one of those over-sensitive pregnant women! I know people say things trying to be friendly.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

LOL Marcia, I was thinking twins myself, until we had the first ultrasound. (I had lots of fun teasing DH, who was clearly not prepared for more than one baby at a time ;>

Connie, My SIL is one of those fortunate people who are petite and is a really "cute" pregnant person. (She wears size XS maternity clothes, and went right back into her regular jeans the day after my niece was born...BAG! ;o) (She should be coming out of the O.R. soon...!!!)

LOL Gil, If you aren't hormonally over-sensitive yet, you may just be in the clear...some people think that baby 'bumps' are public domain. I never had actual strangers come and rub my belly, but I used to have rather that I sort of knew (particularly the dear old ladies at Mom & Dad's church) come up and put a hand on the belly and ask how things were going. It didn't really bother me, but it drives some people nuts (particulary those who like their 3' of personal space.)

Oh!! IT'S A GIRL!!! I just talked to my dad (AKA proud Grandpa). My SIL's still in recovery...so no name yet, but she's 8 Lbs (and something Oz...GP couldn't remember) and they say she looks just like my nieces twin!!...YEAH!!!

TTFN!
Verena

I havent come over to this forum in such a long time..congratulations Verena and Gillian..what an exciting time for both off you..congratulations to all the new grandmas to be out there also!:-)..savona

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Oh update on the baby situation...I had my second ultrasound a week or so ago and we found out...It's a BOY! :o) Quite excited, it will be nice for Brayden to have a brother to terrorize with. Seventeen weeks and counting.

Verena

(Shelley...thinking of you and hoping all is going well, especially with the other med. stuff you're dealing with. It must make it more stressful. Kind thoughts and hugs to you.)

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Congratulations Verena!!!!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Woo hoo! Congratulations Verena! Oh there will be much terrorizing... Brayden must be excited - he's old enough to know what's going on isn't he?

I had my first appointment on May 7 and not much happened besides gallons of bloodwork. The doc tried to listen for a heartbeat but it was a little too early. The doctor's really nice, I really like her which is a relief. She says we'll be doing an ultrasound at about 16 weeks and it can be done right here at the local hospital. I don't know if they will tell me the sex... I HOPE SO!

Oh yeah and I had high blood pressure but that was probably because I had a bad lung infection at the time (got meds, better now). I'm not sure if I'm showing yet or if I just stopped sucking my gut in... LOL!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

When are your due dates Verena and Gillian. I'm sure it has been posted already. My mind is going lately too.
Are you having fun picking out names? That was my favorite part.

Marcia, how are you holding out? Have you got all the baby stuff made that you wanted too?
In a month or so I'll be grandma. I hope she doesn't have it early.

Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

We're still hanging in! The baby has "dropped" already so we're thinking she'll be coming earlier than planned. I told Sandy she should have the baby on my birithday (next Friday). Thing is, we've planned a shower for her that evening. But i'm sure that if the baby comes on that day or before, we'll manage without the guest of honour! :)

No word on the sex yet. She's having an ultrasound on Tuesday and may be able to find out then. We got green decorations for the shower but i don't think we'll run out and change the colour!

As far as names go, nothing has been decided yet. Sandy told me that they like Gabrielle for a girl (but don't want to call her "Gabby") and Darius for a boy. I think they gave up on "E" names - we were probably having too much fun with that! Allison said she dreamed one night that Eddie had found the perfect name - Estelle! When she told that to Sandy, Sandy said "That's it - he's not naming this baby!" LOL

Further updates as they come along. :)

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Thanks!
I'm not sure how much Brayden really understands, but he will come over and pull up my shirt to kiss the 'baby'. So cute. :o) (Of course he also points at daddy's belly every now and then and says "baby" too. ;o) I'm looking forward to seeing his reaction when the kicks become more visible from the outside.

Gil, they'll likely tell you if you let them know that you want to know. As long as baby cooperates. (Sometimes they're really modest.) Hopefully you have an experienced tech. I've heard of a few cases where people were told baby's gender, went hog wild with the decorating/purchasing and then got a big surprise at the time of delivery!! Mind you, if baby cooperates, it's really hard to miss...even I could tell I was having a boy. Hee hee about "not sure if I'm showing yet or if I just stopped sucking my gut in". I remember that feeling with Brayden.

Shelley, I'm due Sept. 8th...but I LOOK like I'm due last week. People (strangers) keep asking, and then their mouths drop open when I tell them...follow up question "Is it twins?" Nope. My SIL said I'm going to have a 14 LB-er. I told her if I do, she's having colicky twins next time... ;o> No names yet...still thinking about that one...we knew Brayden was going to be a boy and he was still three days old before he had a name. (Mom didn't name me until almost a month after I was born, but that was in England, and they give you 30 days there, or they name the baby for you.)

I'm sure noticing the heat already, and I'm swelling like crazy, so it should make for an interesting summer...by the time it hits 30*C, I'll probably be out there working away in the flowerbeds in nothing but a swimsuit, 'bump' dragging on the ground, with cankles, and fingers too fat to hold a trowl. LOL!! (Ain't that a sexy picture. ;o)

Verena

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Shelley, my due date is Nov. 20. Thank goodness by the time I'm uncomfortably massive it will be fall! But I just got central air conditioning installed anyway.

Verena of course you're just going to have a normal baby. You just look bigger because it's your second. Your SIL deserves colicy twins for saying mean things like that >:0( LOL

We have a few boys names that we both don't hate but are at an impasse for girls names. I have some I like but DH thinks they're weird. I always imagined thinking of a name I absolutely love and calling my baby that... but it doesn't work that way when there are 2 parents! But I think in the end it will be up to me anyway, since DH can never come up with a name. I named all our pets.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Gil, when we named Allison, i had a list in my mind. Dh didn't think he would like "Allison" because it reminded him of a woman named Alice that he had issues with. Anyway, after she was born, the nurse asked what we would name her. I recited the list but he only heard the first and last name on my list. That was "Lara" and he thought i said "Sara", so Allison became who she is (and she's grateful, even though we made the dreadful faux pas of naming each of our kids a name which began with a vowel. I mean, what were we thinking??).

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

It's great to hear that everybody's doing well in the baby department.:) I find it interesting that it seems that most people are able to find out the sex of the baby wherever they doctor. But in Brandon, when you go for your ultrasound, they have big signs up in the waiting room basically saying,"Don't ask, because we won't tell you!". My doctor never asked if I wanted to know either, but I didn't want to know, so never pursued it. It was fun to have everyone's ideas on what the sex would be. Doing the ring on a string over the belly, etc. It was right for the first one, but wrong on the second.;^)

We had a tough time coming up with names that we both liked for the second child. Our first, Jonathan, was named after 3 of our Grandfathers, so that was easy. Adam was supposed to be a girl, so that threw us for a loop!lol And we still get bugged by family about our lack of creativity in the second name.....both are Scott. They don't let you leave the hospital without a name, and believe me, I wanted outta there by the second time around, so creativity went out the window!lol

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Any news yet, Marcia? If not, the suspense must be killing you. I really feel for Sandy, if she's this late already.

Shauna

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Nothing happening yet, Shauna. According to her due date, she's early, but the doctor told her last week "any time now". Last night she was having pains but she said they didn't feel like contractions, exactly. She's still home this morning and i saw Eddie heading off to work, so it seems today won't be the day after all.

At the shower, we had a pool where everyone paid a loonie and chose a date. I chose my birthday so i'm a loser! LOL Simon chose "Sunday", but he's only 4 1/2 so he couldn't get much more specific than that. :)

You can be sure that you all will be one of the first to know when something happens!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Sorry, I was thinking that the due date was May 17 and thinking that she was getting late. But I just remembered that is June 17 and it is only May right now, isn't it???? Don't know where my head is right now but it doesn't seem to be on this planet.

Anyway, stay in mommy's comfy, snuggly tummy a bit longer, Baby P. We'll be waiting to hear of your big arrival date about the 17th of next month.

Love
Auntie cyberShauna

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

LOL Shauna! Mommy isn't too comfy and would like Baby P. to make an exit quick like bunny rabbit! She saw the doctor today and she thought it might be awhile longer, but Sandy would rather go with "any day now".

The poor girl even has the cashiers at Walmart saying "Haven't you had that baby yet??"

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Sandy saw the doctor again today and the verdict is that if the baby doesn't come by Sunday, she'll be induced Monday morning. I'll keep you all posted!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Heh. I should have written this first before posting that notice in Discussions, knowing how slow this site is at work - and someone actually made me DO some work before i could get here to Conversations!

ANYWAY! Drum roll, please!

It's a GIRL!!

Baby Darius was born at 12:51 this morning, weighing 11 lbs 6 oz (OUCH!). She hadn't been measured when Eddie called me at 1:30 a.m., and i wasn't thinking too clearly then either. LOL

That baby just didn't want to come out! Sandy was given something to soften her cervix, but that didn't work as well on her as it has on others. Then they put her on the drip yesterday afternoon at 1:30. At 5:00, things weren't progressing that well, and Eddie told me that the doctor was going to be called in at 7:00. They told her then that she would have to have a section done, and i guess she went kind of hysterical on them because she sure didn't want that. So finally at about 8:30, Eddie called Sandy's mom (who is staying with the kids) and told her that they'd broken her water and they were heading to the delivery room. It still took a few hours after that, poor girl.

Eddie thought at the time that they might go home today, but i hope they let her stay another night just to get some rest. Allison and i are going to Dryden after work (hopefully they'll still be there), so i'll have pictures later this evening.

I'm a happy Grandma! :)

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Congratulations, Marcia, to you and to your whole family. What a beautiful name and such a big girl, too. No wonder they didn't want to leave her until the 17th of June. Wow! So glad that all ended well, even though it was a long, tough wait.

cyberAuntie Shauna

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

What a big baby! No wonder Sandy had such a hard time pushing her out. Think we all would have as hard of a time as she did. If they are thinking of letting her out today she is doing great!

Almost 11 1/2 lbs. Wow!

Does Darius have a middle name?

BTW, if you are collecting plants that have names that have the same name as someone in your family...I just bought Darius daylily (Harris '74) last year...maybe in a year or two...

Congratulations to grandma Marcia!

Brenda

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Congratulations Grandma! That IS a big baby......she won't get much use out of the newborn size of clothes, will she? Glad to hear that both mom and baby are doing well, and yes, one more night in the hospital would probably do her good.

Get those pictures posted soon. :0)

Laurie

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Thanks, everyone! I was going to get a rose called "Eddie's Jewel" but it wasn't available at Hortico, where i had my gift certificate. Maybe i should look elsewhere. Where did you get the daylily, Brenda? Maybe i can just buy a couple and they can plant one at their new home.

Someone just told me that this baby might be the weight record in Dryden. Wouldn't that be something?! :)

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

YAY Marcia I'm so happy for you & family!! Darius is a beautiful name and what luck it has a daylily to match ;0) They should make a baby naming book with that important information, what flowers have the name. (mine has a daylily, a non-available rose, a delphinium, and a peony in case anyone's interested, LOL)

I've just had a chat with my baby that s/he is not allowed to be 11.5 pounds until s/he has been out of me for at least a week. If s/he tries to pull that stunt I will be somewhere else for the birth, like perhaps Tahiti.

Dying for pictures!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Congratulations Grandma!!! How very exciting!! 11-6 *Ouch* indeed!! She probably wont get much use out of the 3mo size clothes either. ;o) Can't wait to see those pictures!

Verena

Marcia,

I bought 'Darius' through Cedar Ridge Gardens last summer when they had their big daylily sale.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Thanks, everyone! I had to laugh at you, Gil, having that chat with your little one. No, you don't want her to be 11 lbs!

Here's a picture of her:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
As you can see, she's in an incubator. Something happened this afternoon and she stopped breathing, but luckily Sandy was right there and so was her doctor when she ran out into the hall to call for help. They aren't sure what caused it, so she and Sandy were flown to Thunder Bay this evening. We're hoping it isn't anything serious - i think they just want her for observation for a couple of days. Eddie, Sandy's mom and the kids are driving to Thunder Bay tonight.

So, it's not exactly the picture i planned to post here, but there you go.

And this grandma is whipped tonight. Off to bed. :)

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Sorry to hear about the setback, Marcia. My thoughts are with your new little one. She's really beautiful with tons of black hair - lucky her! Keep us posted with news.

Shauna

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

What a sweetie! You just want to pick them up and cuddle them.......love the clean smell of babies(not the other smells mind you ;)

I sure hope everything goes well for her in Thunder Bay, and that she'll be home soon so Grandma can spoil her.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

She's so adorable Marcia, oh dear I really hope nothing is serious, she's in my prayers.

So how many little booties did you knit so far?

Hugs,

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Everything is fine now. She apparently aspirated a bit of fluid, and they're giving her some antibiotics so that it doesn't turn into pneumonia. Eddie and Sandy are staying with her at the hospital and the kids are with Sandy's mom. My parents went and spent the afternoon with them and mom got to hold Darius! I told her that wasn't fair!

I think they'll be home on Saturday. Allison and i have some pink balloons that we're going to string up down the road to welcome her home. There will be more pictures for sure! :)

Oh my what a little sweet heart Marcia. I'm glad she is doing well now. And sorry to hear about the scare.
And you got your wish. That's nice too. Lovely name btw.

Can you post a picture of "Grandma" holding her new prize? It would be nice to see you both.

I've been going over every day just for a little baby fix. :) Today i finally decided i'd better go home and see what dh was cooking for supper, and just as i got up to go, she started hollering again. I told Sandy that this was the good part - hold them when they're sleeping, give 'em back to their moms when they're crying! LOL

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Oooohh...too cute!! Look at those little chubby arms, and what a head of hair!!

"this was the good part - hold them when they're sleeping, give 'em back to their moms when they're crying!" Too funny, my mom tells me the same thing.

Oh, more news on the baby front, I'm going to be an auntie again!! My older sister just found out she's expecting her first. She's due at the begining of January. :o)
Babies, babies, everywhere!! (I have three friends all due within a month of me, ones even the same day!!)

Verena

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Nice to see you grandma.

Darius doesn't even look like a newborn. She is so sweet.

Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Awww, so pink and chubby and cute!! She's adorable Marcia, you must be very proud of her. I'm sure everyone's glad that scare is over with too.

Verena, isn't it fun having a friend due on the same day as you? I also had that happen, but I delivered a week earlier than the due date, and she delivered 2 weeks late! I'm really glad it wasn't the other way around.;^)

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I got your email Marcia ;)

How do you pronounce Darius?

Also, how come you're not wearing a housecoat? ;)

Hugs,
Sharon

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Looks like someone loves her Grandma already! :0) She sure is a big girl, she doesn't look newborn. Very cute!

p.s. yeah where's your housecoat? We don't believe you wear normal clothes.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

It was too hot for a housecoat..... :>

She likes her Grandma's knuckle, that's for sure! The little brat has pulled two night shifts in a row. Eddie told Sandy to fix some bottles and he'd get up with the baby, but of course he slept right through. LOL But he's just in love with his little girl - it's so touching! He's wanted his own baby forever.

Holding her while she fusses has brought back a lot of memories. I'm really glad it isn't me anymore!!

Sharon, her name is pronounced "Dairy-us". Must be why she likes Mommy's milk so much!

Verena, funny thing - when i was pregnant with Eddie, there were four of my friends due all about the same time. Thing is, none of us even lived in the same town! The babies were all due in April - Eddie was early, born in February, another little girl was born in March, and the other three were boys born right around their due dates. It was really strange that we all should have gotten pregnant at the same time - must have been the full moon in July!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Ooops, really later. Congratulations Marcia, she looks like a real sweetheart. Glad to hear that the scare is over and she is healthy. I wouldn't of wanted to wait to that due date either, not with that weight. LOL So, how many grandchildren is that for you now?

Syreeta

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Dairy-us, well that is charming, here I was pronouncing her name Door-eye-us.

Take more photos grandma!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Syreeta, Darius is our first official grandchild. She has an older sister and brother by her mom's first relationship and Eddie lived for awhile with a girl who had a little guy who thought of Eddie as his Dad. Shayne is 6 now and i love him to pieces. :) Here's a picture of him with Darius:

It's a boy. Jacqueline had the baby at 5:55 pm today. Her mother sent me pictures of the new addition. He weighed 8 lbs 1/2 oz. They didn't know how long he was yet because Mom and Dad would not give him up long enough to let him be measured.
They haven't picked out a name yet.
I'm planning on making the trip tomorrow to P.A. so I'll get some pic's and hopefully find out more.

Grandma Shelley

Congratulations grandma!!

Hope everything went well and am waiting to see pictures of your little grandson!

Shayne looks so happy to have a baby sister now.
Darius is sooooooooo adorable, I want a baby now!

Congratulations Shelley! Yes, we want photos!

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Congratulations, Shelley! Almost on your daughter's birthday, too! But i guess the little guy wanted to have his own day. :) Looking forward to seeing the pics when you get them!

Aiden Leigh.

He is a very sleepy little guy. The doctors say it because of the epidural. I never got to see his eyes open at all.

He's perfect.

Daddy (Devon) and Auntie Kenzie love him too.

Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Aw, what a little sweetheart, Shelley! I bet Kenzie thinks he's a great birthday present!

How old is Daddy? He looks young. Eddie is 25, which is plenty old enough to be a daddy - but he still seems too young to me! It's just hard to believe that he is old enough, y'know? :)

Congratulations again!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Old enough I guess Marcia. He'll be 22 soon.
Devon picked out the name. In his own way he named him after his brother Braeden. Both Devon and Aiden have the same middle name.
Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

What an adorable family Shelley, they look so happy with the new little guy.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Aiden is adorable Shelly! What a nice name too.
Your son is a good looking man, does he want to join our bubble next winter ;) I guess not, he's a father now.... that's the couger coming out of me. LOL

Your little girl sure looks happy. I bet she'll be doing lot's of babysitting in the future.

Btw, I've been to the PA hospital a few times, visiting or picking up my mom who lives in Shell Lake. I also kind of know the town/city since we use to visit many relatives there when I was younger. As well, we use to go to many AA roundups when my mom and dad use to attend when they were younger. I love the native trees and bush out there!

Have fun with your babies gals!

Who's next now? LOL

Sharon

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Terrific news, Shelley. I just got back into town after a weekend away for my niece's wedding and I came back to this wonderful news. A BIG Congratulations to you and your family on your new addition. He is really a handsome little guy.

Shauna

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Shelley, what a little sweetie he is! And Devon did a good job in picking out the name too....I really like it. Kenzie looks just tickled to death to be holding him too. I'm sure she'll make a great babysitter in future years.;^)

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Hey everyone, check it out...

Lilypie Expecting a baby Ticker

I had my ultrasound today and it's a girl!! I've got a little garden helper coming (I'm halfway done already)! We're so happy, we were secretly hoping for a girl. The technician wasn't supposed to tell but I buttered him up and he said... 'Here's the two legs, and the bum, and the umbilical cord, and I don't see anything else so if I had to pick a paint colour... I would go with pink.' LOL

She was so cute and the ultrasound was incredibly clear, we saw her face and she rubbed her eyes and stuck her finger in her mouth. DH says he saw her pick her nose but I don't believe him. LOL They don't give pics to take home though, too bad but I'm just so happy we saw her.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Oh I'm so happy for you Gil! A baby girl, how wonderful, you and DH must be so exicited! Now you can start buying all kinds of cute little pink outfits and bows and ribbons for her hair.

Any names planned yet?

Sharon

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Awww, Congratulations! That would be so cute to see them suck their finger! Hmm, that's funny that they don't sell the ultrasound pictures there. You'd think it'd be a good money maker for the clinic. But maybe it's too much of a hassle for them.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Wonderful, Gil! Sandy's wondering what to do with Darius' little outfits! LOL It's too bad you couldn't bring the picture home. They wouldn't even let you buy it? Eddie and Sandy paid $10 for their ultrasound picture.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Congrats Gil!! (Love the ticker, BTW) Too bad that you couldn't get pics, but it sure is fun to see the little goobers hey!!

It's weird how different the policies are from place to place. Where I went, as long as the little peanut's a bit of an exhibitionist, they'll tell you, if you want to know, and they'll print off the pics too, for free. Though depending on the tech, you could end up with one pic or ten, but when I had my first U/S with Brayden, at a different location, they didn't even have printers.

Verena
31 weeks...AHHHH...single digit countdown now!!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Awesome Gil! Before you know it you'll be holding a sweet little one in your arms.

Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I'm finding this pregnancy really weird. I'm enjoying it, for the most part, but it's been soooo different than it was with Brayden. His was so straight forward (aside from the full term of morning sickness), but this time I'm seeing five different doctors and it's all so much more complicated.
I'm getting to see a hematologist, kidney specialist, obstetrician, my reg Dr. and her replacement while she's away. (Ya have one little hemorrhage (delivering Brayden), and suddenly they want to turn you into a human pincushion! :oP
Oh well, only another 6 weeks (+/-) and then it's all done. (Of course so will the summer... >:o(

Verena

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Well, I'm sure they're being cautious Verena, which is a really good thing. But yes, I'm sure you're sick of giving blood all the time!lol

With this heat wave, I hope you pregnant gals have air conditioning, or somewhere to escape the heat.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Better to be on the safe side Verena.
Six weeks will go fast.

Wow a lot has happened since Marcia's new granddaughter arrived..congratulations Shelley on the new grandson..I am so happy for you Gillian, a little garden helper is perfect. Looks like grand baby #7 is on the way my daughter and son in law are expecting baby #6, that takes the pressure off of her brothers and their wives..nobody is willing to keep up to that number...hahaha...savona

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Six! Holy smokes! LOL

Verena, it seems every pregnancy is different. I'm not envying you in this heat, though! Sandy was just saying the other day that she is soooooooooooo glad that she isn't pregnant right now!

Very soon we should be getting a picture of Verena's bundle of joy. It is so exciting to have these little sprouts show up. Shauna the grandkids ages are-David just turned 10, Kendra is 8, Aislyn is 7 on Aug 30th, Brenna is 5 1/2 and Shayna is 1 on Aug 23rd. savona

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Sooner than I had anticipated Savona!! Not yet!! ;o) but I just found out (yesterday) that they want me to deliver in Edmonton, so they're going to induce me a week or so before my due date (Somewhere near the end of August or very beginning of September). I should find out on Monday, when I go meet the obstetrician.
Everything is good, just precautionary measures. The hematologist wants me to have a platelet transfusion, and I guess Red Deer doesn't have the right class to stock them. If this weather heats back up I'll be happy to have the little guy out a bit early anyway!!

Hey...any suggestions for names??? We're stumped so I'm firing it out to pretty much everyone I know (no guarantees on what we'll use, of course ;o) We know it's a boy, and you'd think that would make it easier, but so far...not so much.

Verena

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Oh Verena, won't be long now.

I always said if I ever had a boy, I would of called him Ryder.

Sharon

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Verena, since you and I both have a Braeden ( with different spellings of course) maybe you will like my other son's name as well-Devon. A few other names that I have always liked are Carter and Kalen.

Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I am/was waaaay behind on this thread obviously!

Congrats Savona!

WOW Verena its sure getting close now! I can see that you hate being a pincushion though. Names? Devon is a cool name. I have a nephew named Devon and I've always liked that name too. Another name I've always liked is Hudson. DH & I almost always disagreed on boys names -- they really are the toughest I think.

Gil that is so cool that they told you. It is neat when you can plan for what colours and all that stuff. With my youngest the technician "messed up" and was chatting with the person she was training so I overheard them talking! I was thrilled to know what I was having so I could get things ready! Anyways, have fun planning! Cute ticker too!

Ang

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I'm way behind too! Congrats again Savona. You must have quite the family holidays with all those little ones!

Verena, I'm sure everything will go fine and it's good that they're not taking any chances. I'm slightly jealous that you're going to have your little boy so soon... but mine's nowhere near ready yet so I'll keep hangin in there.

For names, I think Devon's nice too. Before we found out it was a girl, I had picked out Blake, Stewart, Edward, or Beau for a boy, but I just found out one of the former Spice Girls just had a son called Beau - dodged a bullet there, LOL!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Do you have any names picked out, Gil?

Verena, when Eddie and Sandy were looking for names, i hardly paid attention to boys' names because i was so positive she was having a girl. I like Ethan, but it's being used a lot lately. Boys' names are hard. Our first boy was always going to be Eddie (Edmund) after Uncle Ed and we never chose Adam's name until i was in labour. I was sure he was a girl too so the boy's name was just in case. Luckily! :>

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Yep, she has a name already, I will let you know when she's born - LOL. Sorry, I hate to be "that" person but we just don't feel right telling people in advance... like they might try to argue with us or something.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Our first child was going to be a Christopher or a Kristin. She is a Kristin. When I was expecting the second, Stephanie was the name we chose for a girl, or Jason, if a boy. Jason it was. Then the third was a boy, we named him Bradley. But I found out years later that my sister (who had 3 boys) had also chosen Stephanie as a girl's name if she was to ever have a girl. Coincidence?? Neither of us had told the other and there is no one in the family with that name that I know of. No granddaughters got Stephanie.

After we named our daughter and realized how many times we were spelling her name for others, we wanted to use names that everyone could spell. The boys rarely get asked.

Lots of boys' names to choose from...Mark, Aiden, Bryce, Luke, Alexander, Matthew, Luke, Paul, Justin, etc. We bought a book with the names and their meanings and used that. Now you can just go into the internet to get that info.

Picking out a name is a lot of fun but can also be frustrating if one spouse likes a certain name and the other hates it.

Brenda

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Gil, i remember asking a friend what she was going to name her baby and she said, "Well, he doesn't know it himself yet, so we're not telling anybody!"

Brenda, was your daughter born around 1980? There were quite a few Kristens around that time (from Dallas). I really wanted to call my daughter Allison but dh wasn't so sure about it. However, he was so excited when she was born that he gave in right away!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Marcia, in 1980 I was still in high school...dating my future husband. We were married in 1982 and Kristin was born in 1985. This Tuesday, August 14 we will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary!!! Wow...

Christopher and Kristin (Kristen and other variations of her name) were very popular at that time. But, we really liked the name and gave it to her. A few years ago I found out that Kristin is the US way of spelling Kristen (Canadian version). Years ago being able to find name tags or key chains in a Canadian store for the name Kristin...impossible. Until we went to Florida one year on a holiday I had never seen any. Then I definitely got one for her. Jolene is her middle name.

So, anyone making up their own version of a name will probably never be able to find that name correctly spelled in name tags, key chains, etc.

Brenda

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I've found Allison on pencils and keychains, etc. A lot of times you can only find the "one l" version of the name. You can't find Edmund of course, but there are Eds and Eddies. Adam is pretty easy. We'll never find Darius, that's for sure!

Btw, Brenda - regarding 1980, i keep forgetting that i'm old! LOL

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Marcia, you may be a little older than me but you are not 'old'.

Brenda

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Verena??? Any news yet?

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Not yet...getting pretty close though!! Oh but everything came back good from the hematologist so it turns out that I will get to deliver in Red Deer after all, and I don't have to be induced. What a big relief! My 'Briggs & Strattons' (as DH likes to call them) are starting to be pretty frequent, so it looks like everything is gearing up. :o)

Verena

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

That's terrific news, Verena. It's alot nicer to be able to have the baby at a hospital at home than having to travel. Glad to hear that the bloodwork is good, too. Have you decided on a name yet?

DH and I did something a bit different. All 3 of our boys ended up with their first names having 6 letters and their second names having 4 letters. Why? Really not sure but it was cool at the time. LOL

Shauna

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Thanks everyone! We had the little guy on Thursday.

Matthew Frank Primeau
Sept. 13, 2007 3:25 PM
9 Lbs, 3 Oz.
20 1/4 Inches long

Everything went really well. Was only in the 'good stuff' for about 4 hours, (as opposed to 10 with Brayden) was more intense, but was really quick. We're both doing great and (YEAH!!) the both nights so far he's had one good 4 hour block of sleep (so I get to sleep too!!!)

I'll post some pictures later. For anyone on facebook, I've thrown a couple up on there.

Verena

Verena, what good news! I like his name too, and a big boy at that. I have been checking every day to see when you would post the baby announcement. But, I am not on Facebook so, I will wait until you post a picture here.

Thursday...hmmmmm. What was I doing at 3:25pm? Think I was heading to the garden to do more planting...

Are you planning on doing any fall planting now that you can touch your toes again?

Brenda

Congratulations, Verena! I've been wondering how you were doing and if the baby had come yet. And great to hear that he's sleeping well already - that's half the battle!

Off to look you up on Facebook. :)

Hmm - thought i'd posted this already. I guess you can't just look for a person there, eh? I just joined so i'm still finding out about it. Oh well - i'll look forward to the pictures you post here!

Thanks everyone!! It's been a little crazy around here, but I finally got a chance to get some pictures onto photobucket.

Matthew's a really content baby...soooo nice!! He's gone back to waking up every 2 hrs to feed, but he only fusses when he's hungry or dirty, so I sure can't complain. Brayden's doing awesome as a big brother, and wants to hold Matthew all the time. It's pretty cute!

Here he is (these were taken in the hospital when he was just a few minutes old... there are more on photobucket.)

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Today after a long 5 weeks worth of wait, my son's paternity tests have came back.
Aiden is NOT my grandson.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It is heart breaking for me and for Devon.
Jake and Devon are no longer an item as well. So I will no longer be seeing this little bundle of joy.
I'm sure I'll go through some kind of grieving process.
It is somehow kind of like a death.

I'm used to reading about stuff like this. Not living it.

Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I'm sure as time goes on it will become easier and easier for both you and Devon. My girlfriend in BC went through the similar type of situation with her son and his fiance and 'their' baby.

It will be also be easier on Aiden now than if he was older and more attached to both of you. He sure has grown!

Maybe someday Jackie will find someone else for herself and to be a father for Aiden.

Brenda

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

OMG, Shelley - i'm speechless. My sympathies to you. I'm sometimes afraid that Shayne's new dad will want me to sever contact with him, and i know how i would feel about that, so i can imagine how you feel. Take care, Shelley.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Brenda, you are completely right. It is the best for Aiden to find out about this now.I never thought of it that way.
As for the rest of us, it is a blow. But time will help out.

Thanks Marcia.

Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Oh Shelley, I'm so sorry to hear this. Maybe your son will get back with Jake.

Aiden sure has grown, what a cutie.

Hugs
Sharon

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

OMG Shelley what an awful shock and disappointment for you all. I do agree that it's best to find out now.

I have another tiny bit of consolation too - at least there aren't previous children being taken away also. My nephew (yes I have a nephew in his 20s) had a baby with his girlfrend... then the second baby was not his child and was in fact a different race. No paternity test required. She got custody of the first boy and they don't get to see him very often. It's so sad.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

That is a terrible blow, Shelley. In four months, you can get very attached to a baby. I'm sure you will in a way, "grieve" for him. That would be a normal reaction. Sorry to hear about this twist, but I agree with the above, that it's better to find out now, rather than a few years down the road. That would have to be much harder.

Laurie

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I went back into the beginning of this thread...

Gillian, you said your due date was Nov 20. Been thinking of you this past week...how are you and the baby doing? Are you still working?

Brenda

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I'm ok, and the baby seems fine but I'm measuring really small so they are sending me for a fetal assessment this afternoon. I guess if things aren't functioning properly for some reason I might get induced early. Might be fine though, I don't know.

I was working up until this week, now I just go in if I'm needed, plus my regular Saturdays. I'm so bored. I have never not worked. I don't even take holidays every year. :(

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Gil, guess you will have to fall clean the house, read a new book or two, learn some new crafts, get to know others in your area who are also stay at home moms, make some new recipes, learn to bake bread...etc. etc.

I have 10 acres, love to sew, read, scrapbook, tole paint, garden, take pictures, can and preserve, etc, etc. Don't know what it is like to be bored. Do you want to come over here...I can give you lots to do. No, really, once your baby comes, you will be busy.

Hope all goes well with the fetal assessment this afternoon. Keep us updated. You might be one of the lucky ones who has a smaller baby. I wasn't. My first baby was 3 weeks early but she was definitely ready 'cause she weighed in at 8 lbs 2 oz. I am really glad that she wasn't bigger.

Brenda

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Ah well she's fine, she's just a petite little lady (gender 100% confirmed now). It was great actually, I went to a bigger hospital and they gave me ultrasound photos this time... here's one
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
They think she's about 5.5 lbs and healthy so if we go another two weeks she'll be almost average. I agree Brenda, I don't want a 10 lb baby either!!

I'm back at work today and tomorrow... LOL... the world's shortest mat leave. I'm not too worried about being bored once she gets here. Besides, DH is taking parental leave in January right through the summer so he will be the stay at home daddy. He's super excited, he loves babies. I will be at work part-time from January to April and then full-time over the summer.

Stay tuned for real baby pictures!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

That is an amazing picture Gillian. I haven't seen an ultrasound picture at a late date. Amazing.

Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

That is a really amazing picture Gillian! Very cool....most mothers only get to see the face of their baby after it's born. Lucky you!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I can't wait to see her in real life!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

How precious, oh my, you and DH must be so excited, I can't wait to see the real photos too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

You can tell she's a cutie already. I only have an ultrasound of my youngest - they figured I was too big (twins?), but he was lying sideways on his back, with his feet propped up - I love that picture.
I know what you mean about being bored. I don't know if it's that as much as it's losing your schedule - which gets even worse once the baby's born. I think part of it for me was that I'd been out working for a long time already, so I wasn't used to being home for long periods. I'm the kind of person who has a list for every day. I had to learn to loosen up - a lot. That, and we got in the habit of walking across the yard to my MIL's every day for tea - that was a lifesaver - I made tea, and she played with Matthew. By the time my 2nd was born, it was a lot easier because I knew what to expect, I guess, but we still went to see Grandma every day.

Connie

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Gillian, they say that babies gain about 1 oz. a day in the last few weeks before they deliver. So, I hope you deliver soon.

When I found that out a few years ago...I calculated how much my babies would have been on their due date...

My daughter was 8 lbs 2 oz...would have been 9lbs. 1 oz on her due date.

My son was 5 days early...he was 8 lbs. 12 oz. add 5 oz and he would also have been 9 lbs. 1 oz.

My third was 2 days overdue. He was 9 lbs 3 oz. Would also have been 9 lbs 1 oz on his due date.

Concidental or what?

I did the list thing for years and years. Still do, once in a while. It really helps to get work done around the house and yard. It also helps in priorizing your 'things to do'.

What a sad thing to have to go through Shelley, I hope time is helping to heal the hurt.
Gillian your baby is absolutely adorable! Those 3d scans are wonderful.
Verena what a lovely family you have. Hope you are getting a good nights sleep now that he is a few weeks old.

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

We are all doing fine now. Initially it was shock, then sadness and anger. But life changes, and you start to heal.
Devon is still having a bit of a battle with his emotions, and now is suddenly unemployed. I hope he finds himself another job soon, so he has other things to occupy his mind.

My step brother and his wife just had a new little baby the other day. He was almost a month early, so he is a little guy weighing in at 5lbs 1oz. Initially they were going to call him Aiden as well. But after hearing about Devons situation, they changed their mind and called him Bryson David. I am very thankful that they changed his name.

Verena, I didn't realize until the other day that one of my friends has a Braeden and Matthew. I think that it is kind of funny how some people have the same taste in names.

Gillian, I'm thinking of you.

Shelley

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I know Gil's not due until the 20th but i was kind of hoping her baby would come yesterday on my daughter's birthday. :) On another forum i go to, the daughter of one of the posters went in yesterday, but it was apparently a false alarm. I checked that forum this morning and the mother hadn't posted yet - she's usually there early - so maybe the alarm wasn't false after all!

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Thanks everyone for thinking of me :) Still sittin here waiting and bored. At my appointment this week the doctor said I have grown quite a bit in one week so hopefully that is the baby fattening up and not just a layer of Mars Bar lard on me from Halloween. LOL.

Marcia, I'm hoping for Monday now, as that is my birthday. I doubt it though. Then one of my best friends is Nov. 15 so that would be a good day too. (same year, I'm actually 3 days older and we found our birth announcements on the same page of the local paper!)

 o
RE: Our Far North Baby Book

Yes, I'm still alive. Life has just been crazy these days.

That's a really cool U/S pic! I don't think I've ever seen one with that much clarity and detail. What a beautiful little sweetheart.

Good luck for Monday, Gil. My middle son shares his birthday with my DH and he was born on DH's 30th. I've got a picture taken in the hospital of him holding the baby with a cake in front of them. My MIL could not figure out why I wanted her to pick up 2 "zeros" and 1 "three" for candles. I placed them so it read "30" and "0" on the cake. One of those very special Kodak moments in our family.

I envy all of you now in this digital camera age. It used to be such a pain to go get film and get them developed. My youngest son doesn't have near enough pictures taken of him as he was growing up. What a treat to be able to take them instantly and to get so many "perfect" and candid shots all of the time. Wow. Am I showing my age!!

RE: Our Far North Baby Book

I did type a message here the other day but it vanished into thin air I see....

Sorry for being SOOO behind on this thread. I did read through it all the other day so I feel caught up again finally.

A very very belated congrats to Verena yet. Your little guy is such a cutie and he has probably grown by leaps and bounds already! You all look so happy which is awesome.

Shelley, I can't imagine what you must have gone through and I am glad to hear that all in all its getting better.

Gil, wow, that ultrasound is amazing! I've had 4 kids and numerous ultrasounds with them and I've never seen one so clear either! Cool! Thinking of you and wishing you all the best!

Shauna, that Kodak moment sounds really cool! Its so neat to have pictures like that.

I WILL check here more often! LOL

No, I'm overdue now. I'll be getting induced next week if nothing happens before then. My home computer is FRIED (to the tune of $700) and I have to come to work to check my e-mails n stuff. I'll for sure let you know when I have good news! Thanks for thinking of me :)
