Hi everyone! After hanging in an extra 6 days, Elizabeth Katherine was born on Sunday, Nov. 25, at noon. I'm typing with one hand (baby neglect!) so I'll be brief and tell more later. She was 6lbs3oz and healthy and happy. I'm a little beat up but ok. Here we are:

RE: Good News!

Ohhhh, she's lovely, Gil! Looks like her mom! Did she come on her own or were you induced?

Thanks again to Sharon and Shauna for alerting me!

RE: Good News!

Congratulations Gillian! She's just beautiful, and you also look great too. She's got her hand close to her mouth in the second picture, is she a finger/thumb sucker by any chance? Both my boys were, it was cute watching them sleep and sucking those two fingers at the same time.....oh, the memories.☺

Glad everyone's healthy and happy.....that's the main thing.

Hugs,
Laurie

RE: Good News!

Thanks everyone! :) She's such a good girl and very quiet... except when she has gas :O So far she has her daddy's ears and her mommy's nose. Marcia, no I was not induced, she came on her own and very quickly I might add... scared the crap outta the nurses. They thought I would be there all day and didn't bother to call the doctor until it was almost too late. I was only in active labour for two hours (3cm at 9:00 to 10cm at 11:00) and the doctor didn't show up until 11:45 then she was born at noon. If any of you have been told not to push when you think you have to, OMG try holding it in for 45 minutes. Yikes. Besides that everything was fine and we're happy to be home and the dogs are all her new best friends, for some reason they know they have to be gentle. Laurie, yes she likes to suck her knuckles... actually she was doing so in both ultrasounds, at 21 weeks and at 37 weeks. All the nurses at the hospital would try to swaddle her hands and she would get so mad, they took away her favourite toys. So as soon as they brought her back I would take them out for her.

Congratulations, Gillian. She's absolutely beautiful. She appears to have quite a nice thick head of hair there - is it a little on the reddish side?

Also a beautiful name you chose - is she named after someone, perhaps?

All my very best to you and your DH, and a great big Welcome to little Elizabeth

CONGRATULATIONS Gil & hubby! That is wonderful news and so glad to hear (read) that all went well.

She sure is sweet and you are looking very good and so happy!

I love the name too, so pretty.

RE: Good News!

Thanks Pudge & Ang! She was not named after anyone specific, although I am a patriotic Englishwoman and a fan of Elizabeth I. Also a good friend of mine is Elizabeth but she has always gone by her middle name. Katherine was suggested by DH after he turned on the cable TV movie listings and read out the names of all the actors until there was one we both liked. LOL how bad is that but time was wasting and we hadn't been able to agree on a middle name. Anyway I can't remember for sure but I think it was a Katharine Hepburn movie we got it from.

RE: Good News!

My oldest son, Stuart, got his name the night before I was to be induced and we went through the name book until we found one that neither of us said "no" to. You can tell how long we had to study that name book. There's a whole lot of boys' names between Aaron and Stuart. But, he's so perfectly a Stuart to us . . . Stu or Stuey to his buds, though.

Is she going to be Elizabeth or are you going to shorten it - Libby, Beth, Betty, Liz, Liza, Lizzy, etc.?

Shauna

RE: Good News!

She's sure a beauty. I always forget how tiny newborns are - as my DH said, no bigger than a sack of sugar. They grow so fast, though. I'm glad to hear everything went well.

RE: Good News!

Gil, i think i mentioned that Adam got his name from tv as well. Mike and i were both thinking of tv shows - he was thinking of Adam Cartwright (Bonanza) and i was thinking of the Adam on Bewitched. Of course neither of us knew that we were thinking of different shows until we had to tell someone where the name came from!

 o
RE: Good News!

Marcia, that's funny, no you didn't mention it before. Shauna, I didn't know your DS was named Stuart, that was the name we had picked out if it was a boy - even though we knew pretty early on that it wasn't. Stuart was my Grandpa's name... and actually I'm not a fan of naming after family members but we both really liked it.

I forgot to say before, yes her hair looks red but it's just the pic. Most of the time it looks kinda sandy coloured. It could end up a totally different colour when it grows in, who knows. But DH and I both have a lot of red hair in our families.

Well, now that she's a week old, how about another pic of the little beauty?

RE: Good News!

I agree PUdge ;)

RE: Good News!

Congratulations Gil. Elizabeth is a wonderful name. My best friend from grade 4 has the same name a well as a currant friend and an Aunt. They go by Liz and Betty though. Glad to hear you had an easy labour. It always scare me hearing about these labours that take 20 hours or more. I'd be falling asleep I would think. No a nice short one like yours is much better.

Congrats again.

RE: Good News!

Sorry, this is really belated, but I have some new pics. Needless to say, we've been busy.

Elizabeth's hair is really blonde now. She does a lot of napping. She's grown a lot and has three chins (she didn't want me to tell you that).

RE: Good News!

What a sweetie! :) It won't be long before she's not sleeping so much and you'll be having fun with her.

Chuckling to myself at her wearing blue in the bottom pic. My mother-in-law just told Sandy that she should be dressing Darius like a girl! LOL

 o
RE: Good News!

Adorable, loveable little angel!

Can you make me a baby? ;)

 o
RE: Good News!

She really is cute!

Are you still bored?? (re: conversation a few weeks before she was born when you were waiting and waiting...)

Brenda

RE: Good News!

Marcia - actually that sleeper is mauve - but yeah, dressing a 6-lb newborn means putting on whatever she isn-t drowning in. She doesn't quite fit 0-3 months clothes yet. She does wear blue too.

Sharon - are we talking surrogacy here?? Like where you "bribe" me with "gifts" such as daylily divisions? OMG that is just awful... I didn't just suggest that. LOL.

Brenda - don't make me go there! Yes I'm still bored but in a different way. We're really starting to figure things out though. She's a great baby, it's just a big adjustment for me.

Yes, anything you want! LOL
Get busy now ;)

RE: Good News!

Gil, i remember trying to dress Eddie when he was tinier than that. He was 3 lbs 10 oz when he was born and came home at 5 lbs 8 oz, so it was quite a challenge! I do remember one particular dark blue sleeper that fit him nicely and was soooooo cute! Adam was just the opposite, born at 8 lbs 3 3/4 oz - he fit newborn diapers for about 5 minutes! LOL

RE: Good News!

Gillian, she is soooo adorable! There's something just so incredibly peaceful about a sleeping baby. Has anyone seen that Pampers commercial where they show pictures of sleeping babies, while playing silent night? It's one of my favorite commercials ever.

Marcia, I can't even imagine how small a 3lb 10oz baby would be! Both of mine were around the 8 pound mark, and they were hard enough to dress.....especially if they weren't cooperating!

She is just beautiful, Gillian.

A friend of mine has a little one, two actually but the older is 3 and the baby is now 8 months. The older weighs somewhere around 30 lbs, and the 8 month old, who wasn't a big baby, is now a solid 25 lbs and I think she said he's wearing 18 month clothes (with legs and sleeves all rolled up). He just may be the most content baby I've ever seen.

 o
RE: Good News!

My kids all wore size 12 month clothes when they were 6 months old, size 24 month clothes when they were 12 months old, etc, etc. I only know of one girlfriend who had small babies who wore the same sized clothes as their age in months. Both she and her DH are petite and so are their 4 kids.

So, Gillian, let's see...Elizabeth will be 6 months old at the end of May...do you have lots of size 12 month clothes for her for the summer? Has anyone given you any gently used clothes for you to use for her?

Brenda
