Sorry Guys it is taking me so long. Between making a Christmas present for everyone in my Family, going away to where it was warm and green for a bit I've been pretty busy. I'll try to find something tonight or tomorrow.

Okay here we go. Everyone ready and have their thinking caps on?

What were Lilacs called when they first arrived in England and why? (Must have both answers.)

The common name lilac is from the Arabic word laylak or the Persian word nylac both which mean blue. Ironically, in English lilac refers to a more purplish hue?

My ex-MIL was very British & she would just freak if you suggested bringing lilac blossoms into the house, something about bad luck or death or dying... I still brought 'em in :).

Way back, Mock Orange were known as Syringa because the stalks and branches thereof, when the pith is taken out, are hollow like a pipe?

What do Mock Oranges have to do with lilacs? Sorry Sharon I don't understand your answer.

Blue-pipe tree was the ancient name of the Lilac, a reminder of the time when pipes were made of its wood.

Is that the answer?
