Irises 2008

Laurie_z3_MB

Finally, with a bit of warm weather, the iris season is beginning.....I suppose it's better late than never.

Today, MDB 'April Ballet' opened it's first flower.

Back in April, these Iris reticulata 'Kathryn Hodgkin' bloomed.

Anybody else have some iris blooming yet?

No kidding that 'Mystic Smile' is a keeper! Love the ruffles on that one. Didgerido just grabs your attention with that rich colour, the same as Gypsy Eyes.....just stunning!

Here's a few more blooming in my yard:

    Ditto

    The indestructable 'Cherry Garden'.

    'Leprechaun's Purse'

I love 'Party Animal' because it grabs your attention from a long way.

    'Pumpin' Iron'

    'Quark' first time bloom.

    'Snow Tree'

    'Tickle Me'

    'Sparks Fly'

I wouldn't have thought that brown would be a colour I liked in a flower, but it's so unusual that it catches your eye right away, so I'm really liking 'Tantara'.

'Dragon's Den' opened up today. It's quite an unusual colour, and I really like it.

I used to think I was an iris lover, but after seeing all your pictures, I'll refrain from refering to myself as such. Your irises are all so beautiful! I never knew there were so many.

Here are my dwarf ones. I have no name for them, as they are hand my downs from my mom. So if anyone can help me out...

Absolutely lovely irises ladies! We're finally getting some rain here too, so after it's done I'll have to go out and take some pictures, because I know I've got a few new ones that have opened up in the last couple of days.

Here's 'Dark Rings' that opened up on Thursday or Friday.

Shelley, Boo and Caraboo are very similar in looks. I think that Boo has a brighter blue than Caraboo. But, you would have to compare the flowers side by side to really see the difference.

The same as if you look at Be Dazzled and Live Coals. They look like the same flower until you place them side by side. Then you realize that Live Coals has a much larger flower than Be Dazzled.

I have both Caraboo and Boo, both SDBs and both 12". Caraboo bloomed about 10 days ago, whereas Boo just started and has a much larger bloom.

    Hi everyone,
My iris aren't nearly as stunning as all yours are...
I planted these 3 years ago and have long forgotten their names. This is the first year they have bloomed so it was a nice surprize. The other surprize was they all were supposed to be white, light purple and dark purple. Guess something got mixed up in the box I picked them out of when I purchased them. :o)

These are from an old farm house down the road that were given to me, the woman didn't know their names. Each bloom lasts several days and they have no scent.

And this is not an iris but I thought it was pretty. Again I forgot the name but it is an Austin of some sort...

    {{gwi:243793}}

All were taken in the rain yesterday and I expect it to keep raining most of the week so they won't stay pretty very long.

Thanks everyone for sharing your iris. They all are very pretty and I love the colors!
