Sharon, I love the siberians you just posted, especially...Lady Vanessa. Where did you find her?

My Crimson Snow is also blooming right now. I love the dark burgundy velvety texture of the falls. Mine looks different than yours but it could be the lighting.

Thanks to Laurie for posting her species iris...now I know the name of mine that came from mom via grandma...she called it grass iris:)
Apparently I can grow the odd iris...nothing special like all yours, but at least a few made it this year.
    Dwarf Artic Iris
Can I divide this type and also, when is the best time to do so?(it is much more purple tones than my camera picked up

The following sibe and iris came from my sister

So glad I got Lady Vanessa this year Sharon, especially after seeing your pic. I also got Ego which has bloomed and I hope I don't miss Suri Urji (sp??) which has a few bloom stalks coming up

This TB is just called Purple Shades on the tag. It made it so far, but needs to be moved or I'll lose it, like all the others this spring:(

Wow Debbie, your Purple shade TB is gorgeous!
Arctic Iris, divide about 4 weeks after blooming. I ordered one this spring from ValleyK, hope it looks like yours.

Thanks Brenda, I got Vanessa from Parkland Perennials this spring.

Now THOSE are ruffles on Purple Shades!! Love 'em!

Glad you found a name for your species iris, Deb. It's frustrating, at least for me anyway, not knowing what a plant's name is.

Batik is really odd looking Sharon. Love the colouration, but did the standards fall down on it? There's a few extra petals too, right?

Shazam, you just gotta go with the flow....;0)

I'm not sure what happened to it Laurie, perhaps its a Polyploidy??? Yes, its top standards are laying flat with extra petals.

SPARKLING ROSE is sure putting on a grand show this year.

Shazam, good luck with your resistance ;)

I planted this iris a couple of years ago, but the tag is lost and i can't remember its name:

It'll be sad to see the iris season come to an end. I just noticed yesterday though, that I've got a bloom stalk coming on TB Sweet Mussette, so that'll be something to look forward to.

    siberian 'Ottawa'

    siberian 'Chilled Wine'

I'm not quite sure why this one would be named 'Lavender Queen'....or else it's mislabelled.

This is my darkest one, and I really like it.:)

thanks for the advice Sharon, I'll do that at the end of the month.

I made it home just in time to see the last bloom of Suji Uri, although not the greatest of pics

Idon't know its name but I think I'll call her 'Patience Pays'...I almost ripped them out this spring!

oh where oh where did you get "Blast"

Blast was purchased from Snowpeaks last summer, Debbie. There is a long story that goes with the parcel from Snowpeaks. But my babies from there sat in a box for roughly 2 1/2 months before I got them. Tough suckers.

This is a very large bloom:

I don't have too many irises for whatever reason. I should get more.

This is my last iris to bloom for the season. This is TB Sweet Musette, and the picture doesn't do her justice, as the colours are more vibrant than what I can capture and it's a HUGE flower. It was well worth pampering in the house over winter.

I also have what was supposed to be 'Eye Wonder' blooming now that came from Snowpeak, but it's all purple and not what it's supposed to be.:(

  • Laurie_z3_MB

Well, surprise, surprise, I have another iris blooming. This is SDB Buster, which was coddled in the house for the winter and I think it was well worth it.

I'm not sure if I should say this is my last iris for the season, because I seem to be proven wrong when I say that, but I'm not complaining!;0)

Buster is a wowzy Laurie, I ordered that from somewhere this year ;)

FOREVER BLUE blooming today Sept 18th.

AUTUMN JESTER too has been blooming, looks like more buds are going to open tomorrow or the day after.

  • Laurie_z3_MB

Nice, Sharon! Is that a re-bloom? My Forever Blue bloomed last September, and this year it barely came up at all, and now I think it's totally dead. I wonder if blooming in the fall uses up too much reserves and weakens the plant before winter? Hopefully not, but I don't know why else it wouldn't have thrived?

  • Crazy_Gardener

Yes, its a re-bloom Laurie, geez, I sure hope it doesn't take energy away and dies out. I'll let you know next year.

    Sharon

  • Laurie_z3_MB

Yes, do let me know how it does. Hopefully my theory is wrong though. Incidently, when I was at the farmer's market yesterday, somebody came and dropped off a few rhizomes of Forever Blue and few others, so I'm really happy that I've got a replacement already.:)
