I am very interested in obtaining Dwarf Apple trees. Does anyone in the Calgary area know of a supplier?
Thanks :)

Only one I know of is Hole's in Edmonton, and that's a few years back. Dominion has some mail order - don't know about quality though. Maybe some Googling - or phone calls as most Calgary greenhouses have pretty poor websites IMHO.

Cheers!

Most of the garden centers and greenhouses will not know
on what root stock they are on.
I have some dwarfing apples growing on Ottawa 3 root stock
but so far I'm not happy with them, first, dwarfing means
stunted grows, in our dry climate I find
not so good, also short lived trees.

Even if you can't find a dwarfing apple tree, anything
is dwarfing in our harsh environment, a tree on a standard
root stock is still dwarfing and only growing to about 1/3 the size
then it would grow in a zone 5 or 6 climate.

Thank you Konrad,
I did buy a Norkent on Ottawa 3 last year from DNA Gardens. We call it a twig it is so small! lol I'll see if it survives this winter. I wasn't aware that the dwarf's were that much less hardy but I've since heard it from a few sources.
I have heard rave reviews about the taste of the Honeycrisp apple, and that, along with my small yard sent me in search of the dwarf. So far I have only found them in Ontario at a wholesalers and they won't sell retail.
Thanks again for your post.

From what I've read in Gardens West, virtually all apple trees are grafted onto dwarving stock nowadays. Otherwise the trees get far too big.

Konrad great to hear from you. I thought of you as soon as I saw this thread. Hope the winter has been kind to you and the numerous fruit trees in your the orchards.
How I wish I lived closer to you and get to see first hand all your work .
Take care Lois

You can check out Little Tree Nursery in Martensville, Saskatchewan. They do quite a good job and have an interesting collection they have on Ottawa 3. They may also have some good information on how the dwarfing rootstocks are doing for longevity.

Here is a link that might be useful: Little Tree Nursery

You might be ok in the city with Ottawa 3.
Your twigs should do fine, they probably
take off this year. Apples I grow now on my own seedlings, have more luck,
they do better in drought condition, I dont' water my trees.
