Thanks Pudge :) ... it's been so much work starting all over with the new place and there's so much yet ahead, though the worst is now behind me, thankfully! No, the area is not large, only about a 4'x 4' triangle ... kinda a tough corner that needs just that certain something ....

Hey, maybe a real nice rustic obelisk that I could have some short clematis variety clambering upon? I'd like a climbing rose placed there, though there's not enough sun. I need ideas, some of you guys are so creative :)

I was thinking since it's so close to the house and sheltered from 2 directions, you have great opportunity to zone push there. It may also be an area prone to dryness because of the overhang.

My thought is a Skyrocket or Blue Arrow Juniper - maybe in spiral form?. They're about 2' wide at the bottom so it would fit easily in there, would appreciate the drier area and since they're zone 4, would benefit from the house protection. They do grow to 12' or so but I find my upright juniper to be rather slow growing so pruning for height wouldn't be an issue for a long time. I think it would fit nicely in there without looking too formal. I googled for a photo of a spiral juniper in a cottage garden setting and found this one.
