Scotch Bonnets are a variety of Capsicum chinense, and they are definitely slower off the mark than the Capsicum annum varieties that are usually grown in northern climates (cayenne, Hungarian, Thai, etc.) If you grow annums, I would say add about 50% extra to your timing. If that's vague, I'd probably say 2.5 to 3 months, but that depends a lot on your growing conditions.

The super-hot varieties I believe are all C. chinense as well, so grow-times should be comparable. I grow Dorset Naga under shop lights in the winter -- here's a pic of one about 2 months after sowing (it has been clipped once to try to force it to branch out... not really needed for these varieties but it doesn't hure either). This is in a 2" pot.

Here's some after a bit over 3 months, just about to flower. If you had room, you could grow them this long, but they do spread out and start to take up room. Now in 6" pots I think.

And here they are today, almost 6 months after seeding: Still in 6" pots to keep them small, but hey, how many super-hot peppers is someone going to eat anyway?

Thanks for the response. I actually did sow some seeds yesterday. I put the peppers on a heat mat. Last year I grew Aji Crystal which I found really hot (and so did he so I can't figure out why he bought these). Hopefully something will germinate. Marg
