Does anyone know where it ended up last year? It should be time to get it going again. The last person on the list was Cdnfruit. I've emailed her through her profile but have gotten no answer. If anyone knows her, can you get hold of her and ask about it?

Thanks!

Well, it's been over a week and no answer. Is that it for the long-running box of seeds??

Hmmmm.... I found out what happened to it.

Here is a link that might be useful: Where the Box of Seeds went

I am waiting on an address. I cannot send seeds through email as much as I would like to pass them on when I never get an address to send to.

Sorry - it's just that we didn't know exactly where it had ended up, and i never got an answer from you when i emailed you about it in January. The box was started here and has been ours traditionally to pass on to people who come to this forum. Usually the last person to have it starts it up again the following winter by posting here.

Now that we know where it is, people can post here if they would like to have it.

I'll take it first if nobody else wants to. Cdnfruit, please email me through Gardenweb. If you don't hear back from me within a day, try groundskeeperjilly(at)gmail.com. Use the @ sign.

    Thanks!

Gil has them now. I think i'll get it next and send it on to Destiny after that. SCG, if you want the box, Destiny can send it to you, and i think Syreeta would like them after that. I'll see if i can get her here to get on the list.

Have messaged Syreeta to see if she wants it. Hopefully, she'll let you know. Edited to add that she will check in to the forum later this evening and let you where to send it.

This project has really dwindled over the years and people don't seem to be as interested in it anymore. And given the cost of mailing it, i don't know whether or not it should be continued. What do others think?

Too answer the question as to price, how big is the box?

If it is chosen to not continue I will be happy to list what is in the box for a SASE. I also have several thousand seeds I can email to folks, although germination is very spotty.

Edit. to edit the read edit...as I didn't read well before...I will send it her way LOL

Oh, i misread your post! I thought you said you had received it! I sent it to Destiny about a week ago so she must have it..

The box is actually a large padded envelope but it still goes as a package, and it cost me $15 to mail. I think it cost Gil $12 to send it to me. I bought the envelope last year in the hopes that it could go as an envelope not a package, but it didn't work, even if the seed packets are spread out in it.

It used to go to several people in Ontario as well as out west, but this year there hasn't been much interest.

Then my offer still stands.. I can divide it and send for a SASE. All the unclaimed seeds will be added to this years clearing by mouth competition plot.

To spice things up, well not so much, I am adding lettuce seeds for the competition.

And those of you with the acquisition disorders I will get too you. Best thing you can do to cure your addiction is send me seeds.

Thanks, SCG. Maybe... LOL If it dosn't go anywhere after Syreeta, maybe she can send it to you and you can hang on to it for.... safe keeping!

How about a nice butterhead for the clearing by mouth thing?

If people were adding and removing more I think it would be worth the money. I know I could make it worthwhile if I actually planned and saved seeds. It was $11 and change to mail it to Marcia. Unfortunately postage rates have gone up a LOT in the past few years!

The thing that really stuck out for me was why the heck do we have heavy corn and bean seeds in there. I almost removed them and threw them out, but then I thought it wasn't my prerogative.

I do have the package and I kept it over the weekend (it benefited from Seedy Saturday) and it has gone out in today's mail. Just under $12 after trading out some heavy seeds.

Mom was thrilled with the corn. :)
Gma was thrilled with the sprouting broccoli
I kept some beans, tomatoes + peas plus flowers.
Added back some lighter seeds - onions, ornamental pumpkins, peppers and others.

As a first timer on this train, I think it would benefit NEW members most especially if they knew what to expect.
$12 wasn't much considering the variety of flower seeds etc. that was available.

I'm glad you were able to use things Destiny! I took and added a few too... last year I ate ALL the dill so I needed new dill seeds. LOL who runs out of dill?

You're right - it would be better if we were taking more seeds. Sounds like you did all right, though! I just don't need a lot anymore. We can keep it going another year and see what happens.

Methinks the box needs enough seeds that it worth the postage. So everyone save this year. Then send to me and I will assemble the box for circulation next fall. Just a thought!

If not I can use all these seeds in the clearing by mouth competition this year!!!

I just had to find out what you were all talking about, this clearing by mouth competition. did the search and now I know! Just wondering what happens when one comes across poison ivy like in our woods? Oh Man!!

Oh clearing by mouth doesn't stop at poisonous or thorny bushes. That is where we separate the true competitors from the chaff. Do you want to enter in the 2014 gardening challenge? There could be up to $100,000 in prize money.

I wasn't planning to participate this year, as I didn't plant much last year and still have plenty of seeds to work with this year.

I was happy to see more people adding vegetable seeds last year though, and I'm sure those "heavy" corn and bean seeds were mine.

Maybe splitting the box into two would be appropriate- one for the flower people and one for veggies and herbs. Would that cut down on postage sufficiently?

I suspect if this post moved to the Canadian Seed Exchange and listed the varieties in the box that things would definitely pick up. Past trains that I've been involved in listed a: whats in the box, b: what you take from the box and c: what you put back in the box, thereby letting people see the value in advance.

I do like the idea of switching it up to a veggie vs flower train. But then, I'd probably have missed out on some wonderful surprises. :) Why not call it the $12 train and let it roll? *lol*

Option is still open to plant all for the "clearing by mouth" 2014 Canadian championships.

I will also be happy to distribute as the group feels. While it might get busier on the exchange my thoughts was it was for our community.

Happy to do we decide. If anybody needs clearing by mouth practice we are mostly clear of snow and you are welcome to practice any time soon.

I'd rather keep it here and keep it as is. :) I know it was me who complained about the postage, but still, if people don't care about it, we might as well keep it going the way it is now.

SCG, i think i'll be clearing snow by mouth for many more months.....

First sprouts from the box of seeds are UP! Tomatoes that I'm excited to see grow. They'll get babied until they are set out in the sun-room :) Still waiting on Tomatillos - got them cozy up next to my oven light for warmth. I think the house may be too chilly for them. Because of the joy I got from the box of seeds my vote is to keep it running as is.
