They label me as zone 2 really I think I'm zone 3. We are up against the mountains, but I think it is just a liability thing if their plants fail or seeds don't germinate.

I have noticed some growers try to put us in colder zones too so they don't have to guarantee their plants.

However the Ag Canada climate zones were redone a few years ago (several now I guess) and moved many areas into lower zones.

IMO the only good way to assign a zone is through indicator trees. Trees live for decades above the snowline and don't lie.

I'm sure Gil is right. I got Peach Stella from either Veseys or Dominion Seed House back when i still bought plants from them and they said there was no guarantee because i'm supposedly in zone 2b. I told them to tell that to all the other hemerocallis in my gardens.

Veseys says i'm in 3a and Dominion says 2.

My brother was a OPP in Terrace Bay. I grew up in the Kapuskasing area but also lived and worked in Thunder Bay

I remember you telling me that you lived in Thunder Bay, Cheryl, but that's interesting about your brother living in Terrace Bay. How long ago was that? I haven't lived there since the mid 70s but my parents were there until around 1990 or so.

I don't think any zone map is perfect. I've bought from Vesey's for years and I've always felt they've been very honest about their zone rating and descriptions for plants, which is lot more than I can say for some companies and many garden centres.

Vesey's is a lot closer than Dominion Seed House. I must have bought Peach Stella from Dominion. I just checked McFaydens and William Dam. Neither give me a zone, but Botanus, whose plant quality and customer service i love, says i'm in 2b.
