Growing citrus in saskatoon / the north

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has had any success growing citrus, wintering indoors during the long cold winters. My friend in Vancouver just got a dwarf meyer lemon, and I think it would be wonderful to be able to have something like a this to accompany me through the long, cold, winter months.

I grew citrus many years ago in Ontario -- one each of lemons (Meyer), limes, and oranges (calamondin). I recall them being very succeptible to a change in conditions, where they would respond by dropping most of their leaves. I kept them mostly or entirely indoors, but in the end a spider-mite infestation sent them to the trash.

I think it would be difficult to grow them outdoors in the summer, and not bring pests inside in the Fall.

I agree with Don, I had grown several types of citrus and they're rather sensitive, very pest prone plants, I reluctantly decided they were not worth the effort.

That's disappointing - I might try just one and see how it goes. I found an article about this after I posted this thread:

Might be a neat challenge!

That's an interesting article and I'd love to later be able to obtain one of Nair's lemon trees :)
