 o
sweet cherry in Calgary ?

I live in Calgary, Alberta and I would like to plant a sweet cherry (if possible at all). I think it is zone 2b or 3a - cannot tell for sure since the colours on the zone map were so close.

Could you please give me some advise on the type (names) of cherry and where to get it from?

Thank you very much!

RE: sweet cherry in Calgary ?

I'll have to disappoint you,..sweet cherries are not hardy for our area, you might get some cherries the odd years but trees are prone to freeze back.
If your'e willing like me and experiment, I find, growing branches close to the ground and hope for snow cover, chances are higher to get fruit. A garden center here has them regular, you might check in your area. I would plant the tree on a angle so branches are closer to the ground, and or weigh them down. Bury the graft union about 6 inches deep, [above graft].
