Well after reading this I did a little research and according to what I read the plant actually secretes the main ingredient of aspirin when it is hurt--by bugs or cuts, but not enough to take care of the problem.

I think it is worth a try and I'm going to do it too. The article that gave the most info said 1.5 uncoated aspirin to 2 gallons of water sprayed on the plants and add insecticidal soap or something to kleep it on the leaves. Here's the site if you want to look it up

Just be careful if you're planning to serve any food items treated with this to people with salicylic acid intolerance.

Plants naturally secrete salicylic acid and many fruits and vegetables naturally have a dosage that will bring a reaction to salicylic acid allergy sufferers, so they wouldn't be eating them anyway. This includes tomatoes, peppers cucumbers, broccoli and many others. I don't think disolving 1 1/2 tablets in 2 gallons of water and spraying the plants with it will make that much of a difference

Do you really think salicylic acid intolerance (NOT an allergy, BTW) includes such foods? I'll be sure to tell my co-worker, who eats these veggies on a regular basis and is quite sensitive to salicylic acid.

I did a little research on this subject and certain foods and salicylic acid. It doesn't matter if you call it intolerance or an allergy it is the same thing. Yes all plants secrete salicylic acid. Some more than others. If your co-worker must not be as sensitive as you say if he/she eats them. Check out the site below
