I deal with drainage issues a lot at work. A picture would really help me here. If you could get as much of the whole area in it would be beneficial.

Based on my own mental picture, yes a very good solution would be to cut the sod remove some dirt then replace the sod. I can give you detailed instructions either here or via email if you decide to go this route.

That happened in one small area of our patio. Because of where it is, I don't walk there much and it hasn't been a bid deal. What I would do is get a sharp, square nosed spade and slice horizontally into the sod and angle it up, removing as much as necessary to reduce the bump. Then plant some grass seed if you're lawn OCD, or wait for the grass to grow back if you're like me. ;)

Oh, I was just thinking too, the other thing you could do is get the installers to make a step out of bricks to make up the grade. Depending if it would fit in with the patio design of course. And it might be a good idea to edge the step in a different colour brick so you don't trip over it!

nutsaboutflowers, that was exactly what I had to deal with when I had my paved patio installed last year!

The landscaper had to re-grade the lawn to avoid that step-off at the end of the "upper" lawn. They basically lifted up the existing sod along that edge, and then regraded it before they applied new sod there. Now it is barely noticeable.

I am glad that they did it for me - I don't think that I would ever have done it as well as they did and a bumpy lawn always annoys me no end!
