I believe if they ate the bark all around, it doesn't have much chance, but if it's not a complete circle around the trunk, it has a chance to survive. Sorry, I'm not sure if there's anything you can put on the trunk. Maybe someone else can help.

The voles have been bad for a few people this year >:0( Sorry about your trees.

Yes Northspruce is right....if the ring is right around the tree...then it will have to be replaced. Take a look at my photos in the gallery...my nanking cherries were chewed bare....I have pulled them out.

Thanks for you quick responses! I finally got ahold of someone at the tree place where I bought this from and they said the top will probably be dead and not leaf out BUT since they are a hardy breed, she said to whack it off and chances are new shoots will come up from the root area!! Yay, there may be hope yet :)

I think the voles went all the way around... uh....

I had a couple of apple trees what looked like all the way around about
2 years back, I covered it with Dr. Farwell's heal & seal, this is a paste
what keeps the moisture in, also used in Grafting, they both survived, mostly
because voles have only eaten the outer layer, not all the way to
the wood, the seal really helped in this case to keep the moisture in, also helped healing.
