Plums blooming

Here's my plums at the end of there bloom. Hopefully they set fruit this year. I had a western sand cherry blooming at exact same time pretty heavy and did alot of manual pollination myself. Brookgold opens first this year followed by brook red than weneta. All three have been pollinated by each others pollen along with westernsand cherry and apricot. I worked the trees hard for period of three days brushing all the flowers . Also found a few new buddies helping pollinate unlike last year bees were non existent in my side of Calgary.

WOW! Very pretty! I have not seen a single tree blooming in Calgary yet!!! Do plum trees tend to bloom early in spring?

Hope you will have lots of fruit this year!

I only have two plum trees, a 'Patterson's Pride' and 'Brook Red' that I've grafted with many other varieties. The trees are coming into full bloom, though the number of bees has been scant and I find it odd that the honey bees seem rather disinterested, they buss on just a few blooms before quickly flying away, thankfully there were quite a few bumble bees working the blooms in the evening.

In Edmonton, my plums had just a few flowers open on Wednesday, the warm weather on Thursday has them very close to full-bloom by the end of the day. Pears are in full bloom (at least in the crown of the tree, which is what attracted my attention). Saskatoons in early-bloom. Romance series of dwarf sour cherries starting to bloom on the bottom of some varieties but main bloom not imminent. Evans cherry seems a bit slower than the Romance series. Apple buds showing a bit of pink, but bloom not imminent.

Hopefully your pollination is paying off Matt!.. I want to see fruits!

It was a good day for pollination today,...sunny and warm, lots of bees here, somebody must keep some hives in town,...isn't me!

Konrad apricots are disappointing here :( I've got five trees that will probably never give me fruit even with winter protection . It's simply to cold for the buds to produce flowers. One apricot impressed me and its the casino because its location in the shade. It won't grow much but I might get few fruits next year.

On the other hand plums kick ass south of Calgary in my location. I have lots established and they flourish here.

My mt royal and Italians are going to flower soon . The mt royal might in next day or two . How well does mt royal set fruit from its own pollen ?

Usually pretty good...but still needs warm day's for properly pollinate and set fruits,..we're in several cool rainy day's and cold nights, which can throw things off, you can't count on "any" fruit production here in Alberta,...unless you're doing it indoor.

With Apricots,..it's said that you can have a crop ones in about every 5 or 6 year average.
Mine only has very little blossoms, maybe 5 % of last year.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch!
