Plants turning yellow from rain!

Argh, are anyone elses plants starting to suffer from all the rain we've been getting? Here in Saskatchewan, the roads have barely begun to dry off before we have another half-inch or more forcasted the next day!

At first, everything was loving the rain. But now I see some of my plants (some daylilies, phlox, and beebalm, lilies) are starting to yellow. Including my newly planted daylilies! I'm afraid that if this rain doesn't stop, a lot of my stuff is going to rot out.

Anyone else having the same issues? Stupid heavy clay soil.

We've had all that rain too. Last weekend there were 3 and 3/4 inches of rain in my straight sided bucket, then we got more all week including a cloudburst last night. I have silty soil so it drains fast but heavy rain washes the sand out and it looks weird with white sand sitting in swirls on top of my flower beds. I don't miss my clay soil from my old yard but I'm spending a fortune on fertilizer now.

Some of my annuals are looking a little sad and slightly yellow. I gave them some fish emulsion today, thinking they might need something. I'm sure any nutrients they were getting has been washed away. Luckily I haven't planted my new daylilies. We just dug out a bunch of grass and did the lasagna thing, so they'll go there soon.

Clay Soil! I had a new variagated lilac from last year that we dug a hole for and put it in for the winter, pot and all. I wanted to make sure it was going to get enough sun. Well, I took it out of it's hole yesterday, and the hole had about 5 inches of water in it that took all day to drain! Weeper, stupid heavy clay soil is right! Now where am I going to put that lilac?

Hey, is that variegated lilac named 'dappled dawn'? I bought one at Superstore in the 'one gallon' shrub section two years ago. It's started to get a bit of height to it (it would be even bigger if it hadn't stayed in a pot for an extra year). Anyway, mine has yet to bloom but the variegated foliage is neat green/yellowish blotches.

Hope things dry out. The only bright side is the lawn I sodded and seeded (after severe winterkill) is doing okay.

Glen - My variagated lilac is one that gets white and purple blooms, not variagatd leaves. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who doesn't get everything I buy planted before winter LOL !

About your lawn.....how do you seed over your winterkill? I haven't had much luck with it. Last year I tried fixing a patch by covering it a bit with topsoil and seed. Didn't work. This year, I scraped another patch quite a bit with a rake, covered with compost,stompled it like a buffalo would have, ha, ha ( saw a show a while ago and they mentioned how good buffalo were for reseeding the prairies) and then seeded. It's growing a bit so far. How do you do it?
