three days of rain -- pots dry

After three days of rain, my potted tomato plants looked stressed. I thought they were weather beaten (I did lose two). I finally stuck a finger in the dirt. They were bone dry.

The moral == don't count on rain to water your plants.

Lol! My babies are doing just wonderful Larry. But, I do water them every day. :)

To be fair though, we haven't had much of a substantial rain for a while. :)

And here I'm thinking, rain, rain, go away. My pots are flooded along with the driveway and the corals. Rain barrels have been overflowing for a week. More in the forecast too!!!
I need things to dry out. Septic field is flooded as well and can't cut the grass. Cheryl

Seriously, what is it with the string of crappy summers in Saskatchewan lately?

In the past decade, we've had two summers warmer than normal (2003, 2006), two normal (2007, 2011) and the rest colder than normal, with 2004 and 2009 being the most infamous.

Speaking as an Albertan, I can sympathize! My neighbour, you are not alone. 2010, 11, and now 12 have all been under-the-weather so to speak. Last year we only saw one day that hit 30 C and that was in May! Crazy!!

Last year at this time we were floating away (almost literally, my sump pump ran for 5 weeks straight) - then at the end of June it stopped raining and never did again all summer. It was very hot & dry. Now it's raining again. Almost every day for the past two weeks. Enough already!

Highest temp recorded this year in Edmonton is only 24 C ... sure could use some heat and moisture in this region.

I just looked at the historical weather for Grande Prairie for the years we lived here (moved here in 2004) and so far this is the coldest June. Today is beautiful and sunny so maybe if I put on a big coat I could pretend it is plus 30 I could even get it to feel plus 40 if I put on a snow suit.

No wonder why my flower bed is so far behind my bleeding heart really did make it but it is just poking through now not sure if it will even flower this year as it is so late.

We are having a wedding on the farm this year, July 7, I was hoping all my lilies would be blooming for the pictures, but it looks like it will be the irises. They are just starting now. Cheryl
