Is it Speedwell

Hi,

I planted a Red Fox Speedwell last fall, stuck in a marker to locate it. The clump did not come up this year but I had something come up about 6" over from it. When it first came up I thought it was a lily from the nearby clump but as it developed I realized it is not one of my lilies. It got about 3" tall and stopped. I can not see any growth tip so it seems to have got where it is going and is done. I have not grown veronicas before so I am not sure what they look like. The pixs I have found look like the leaves are "jagged" and hairy. Would anyone care to offer an opinion on whether it might be the Speddwell or a lily the birds brought in. Thanks

Hi Sharon,
Thanks for the pic, my camera is on the fritz or maybe it is the cord. The leaves in your pic look the same. I guess the pixels are what is making the leaves look jagged, only the front ones in the pic look rough. Do they like a specific fertizer/soil. I am hoping they will do something more this year once the weather normalizes.

Sharon, thanks for posting the picture of your Veronica spicata 'Giles Van Hees'. I've had this plant for 10 years and didn't know it's name. Thought it was Veronica but never found a picture like yours. Beautiful plant.

Hi! I was a bit confused about my plant as well. I planted what was labeled "Veronica Speedwell" a few years ago. I bought them from a local Korean grocer who speaks no English (they have fabulous plants!) Today I saw the same plant again and figured I'd check it out for some clues and it was labeled "petunia" which of course was wrong so i am wondering if lasts years labels were wrong also. Your photo helped alot (I think it is a speedwell). The first year it flowered (i think mine is a lot smaller than the one in the photo - leaves smaller and the flower was purple - but the "toothy" leaf is the same). It really was invasive to my property but since I had absoultely nothing going on the property, I dug up a lot of the spread, planted them in pots and then replanted them this spring. They are growing beautifully - again spreading - but none of my plants, including the original ones are blooming. What am I doing wrong? Thanks. Any advice would be appreciated.

Depending on what species or cultivar it is, they may bloom later in the season. Give it time.

Right now my Veronica whitleyi is blooming like crazy.
