Northerners - do you do fall crops?

I was enquiring at the local nursery about getting broccoli transplants in August (our first frost is mid-Sept) and they had never heard of anyone doing that. So, that got me wondering. How common is it? Last year, I had reasonable success growing radishes in the fall (sowed Sept 5, covered with polytunnels early Oct, harvested mid-Oct) but I would like to try something else this year.

If you plant broccoli seeds around now, you can have a nice fall crop. I've done that before.

My thought is that it would be too hot for brocolli plants to get a start in August. Also, brocolli takes a lot longer to mature than radishes. Maybe leaf brocolli?

I plant the seeds between the broccoli transplants and they grow fine there. Maybe the shade from the other plants cools them a bit.
