At the side of my house, my husband built a raised flower bed and there is a trellis built for my clematis. I was cleaning up the area a couple weeks ago and found a robin's nest on top of the trellis. Scared the tar out of me when the bird flew from it.

I also had a mating pair of ducks in the back yard this Spring. Found a snake once in my rhubarb, but I can do with never seeing another one of those in my yard, lol.

I have those little jerks squatting in my hedge too! I can walk right up to their nest and look at the three cute little blue eggs. :). Silly robins.

My best legal advice - The only thing you are likely to be able to collect are some interesting pictures!

Live and let live! And just enjoy the cuteness and pass it on to us!

Thanks for the advice all...what I really want is to be a slumlord and get some cash out of these free loaders. Do the flickers really think I put my sweat and blood into building that house for them to live free? Not only that but the darn things fly away every time I approach to talk to them about it. I figure they know they are pushing it. Despite my rough exterior the word must be out that I don't have the heart to evict as I have 5 (that I know of) nest sites.

Maybe the birds are like cats - they believe their mere presence in your life is a generous gift for you!

SCG, birds are sneaky. They perch in camouflage and wait for you to be gone for a weekend or even a quick run to the store and they set up homesteading. Eviction is illegal and unethical, so you're really stuck with them. Good thing those babies are so very endearing. And then I suppose we have to consider the bug eradication that occurs in both air and on the ground as additional benefits. Hmm, maybe you need to rethink this....
