Lilac suppliers

Good evening!

I had someone contact me asking where they might find a supplier of lilacs. They would like to start a lilac display garden and would like to get some unique lilacs.

Has anyone in the Far North placed a mail order for lilacs in the past few years from somewhere in Canada? What did you think of the supplier who sent them to you and how are the lilacs doing for you?

Any help would be appreciated...

Hi Brenda, I bought mine years ago from Cornhill Nursery in NB.
They came bareroot, nice, healthy and big. I noticed their shipping has gone up somewhat, but everything has ;) I've never had a problem with CHN.

They are doing wonderfully.

Used to get mine from a supplier in Quebec but don't remember the name. Had 4 one year and they all came bare root and bloomed that same year and every year since. They were Maidens blush, Dark Night, Beauty of Moscow and Primrose. Primrose was a disappointment as it sure doesn't look yellow.

I had two primrose that never bloomed. They finally kicked the bucket and got shovel-pruned.

Didn't get the GR Ld today but will go tomorrow. My daughter visited and felt sick so no go for today.

I have no idea where to get Lilacs in Canada but if you get a chance check out the Beauty of Moscow lilac. I fell in love with it when I saw a picture of it at a Royal Horticultural Gardens talk I went to in Fort Frances Ontario. I have planted it on at least four properties since then but every single time ended up moving before I could see it in it's full glory!

Yeah, Beauty of Moscow must be popular; I has been sold out at all the local greenhouses.

beegood - I wonder if you ordered those lilacs from Select Plus? I think they are located in Quebec. I think they are supposed to have a variety of hard-to-find cultivars. Haven't ordered from them, so I don't know how good they are.

I really do not remember but yhey sure had a lot of them. More than any other place I ever came across.
