Chokecherry ... they make excellent very tasty jelly and syrup!

You can certainly grow the seed and also dig up and replant any suckers you might find.

I agree, and all the species I'm familiar with will darken to blackish when they're ripe.

here,..got several my own seedlings, early ripening, are black right now.
They might soon be recognized as a super fruit, for their healthy properties.

I'm always looking out for these, something out of the ordinary sweet tasting chokecherry, ..this spring I grafted one from someone claiming it's sweet,..next year I might find out.

If you have a sweet tasting one, I sure would love some scion.

Konrad the wild ones here are all over the place, would it be different than what you have and if so would you like a few branches?

Don't think much different,..I would like to encourage all of you to taste them,..see pulp to pit ratio,..larger the better, sweeter the better, [for fresh eating]..most have that horrible choking aspect, nothing wrong, probably a good thing when being processed.

Just interested in the in the sweet, none astringent fruit.
For Alberta, this would be the closed to sweet cherry one can grow.
