Mid-Summer 2010 - Sales & Bargins

Ok fellow gardeners, let's share info about those sales!

I just got back from my local Home Depot where I picked up the following:

6 - 4" pot Stella D'oro daylily (at least my sleuthing deduced as much, they were listed as 'repeat bloomers' and some of them were in bloom) - $2.50ea

6 - 4" pot Dianthus, 2 different varieties (unnamed but blooming & they look like deltiods of some persuasion) - $2.50ea

2 - 4" pot Lilium Asiatic - (again, unnamed but orange, and I can't resist orange!) - $2.50ea

Canadian Tire (Okotoks - didn't seem to be on sale in Calgary):

3 - 8" pot Bergenia Winter Glow (Winterglut) (these were huge plants!) $8.00ea (I bought 'em all!)

2 - 8" pot Sedum Autumn Joy (again, huge plants!) $8.00ea

I am so thrilled with all of these, maybe they'll live to see another year, maybe not, but they were cheaper than most of the annuals I bought this year!

I better get my butt in to a greenhouse ASAP.

There's probably lots of people snapping up everything in sight like you did LOL ! =:)

Okay, they are 1 litre pots, not 4"! LOL
Here are a couple pics. Anyone know what these dianthus are? The bergenia are in behind the pink tub.

Garden chicken. the red dianthus might be 'Frosty Fire', but it could be something else. There are so many new ones on the market now.

hey, will bergenia live up here? They had them for 10 bucks at lowes and they were hugh. I didn't buy them because I thought they wouldn't make it.They had zone 4 on the tag.Our home depot in wasilla never take care of their plants,so the only thing I bought from them this year were strawberries

Bergenia does quite well here. Mine is huge. :)

I have a huge bergenia also. I love it. Since it is evergreen, it takes a beating from winter and the foliage looks terrible for a while in the spring, but it always recovers and looks great all summer.
