Out in the front garden weeding and what do I come across but baby dragonflies! Yay!!! And mom wasn't too far away! Now that the city has sprayed 4 times for skeeters, the dragonflies hatch! Better late than never I guess! I so love to see them hovering around the garden. For that matter, I so love to be IN the garden! No rain for 2 days!!! Hoping for hot August nights!!!

I haven't seen many yet. County does not spray so they will have lots to eat. I took this last year early in the morning when it was quite chilly out.

Isn't it funny how they chose to sit on the twist in the wire instead of anywhere else along the row.

Do you suppose the fifth one is in trouble with the other four? He left a space, LOL!

Did you know that dragonflies can't walk very well?

I had a monster one in my house a few days ago. It was four inches long.

We have zillions here. Sometimes I look out in my backyard and think if it was any other insect, I'd be disgusted.

BTW not to nitpick but dragonflies don't have babies. They have a nymph stage that lives in water, then they hatch out fully grown with wings and fly away. There are several different species though, that are different sizes and colours. Around here I've noticed the huge black and blue ones aren't as friendly, but the small red and orange ones like to sit on my hand.

Then I am very lucky to have different varieties of dragonflies and probably some damsels as well!

That is a real neat picture Konrad.Wonder what that lone one did to be left out?Oh well they all look alike when they fly and it will be part of the group in no time.

Gil, did you see my picture on FB of the emerald green and black dragonfly? I've never seen one before - it was really beautiful (for a bug!).

RE: We have Dragonflies!!! Yay!!

Those are GREAT pics of the dragonflies. :)

Oh yeah, the dragonflies like to sit on the tops of the steel poles we have to reinforce our trellis. I always see them sitting there, ALWAYS!! :) It's a good sight. :)

This is the first year that I have seen this many dragonflies that have stayed around this long. Usually they are here and then a few days later, they leave. :( I haven't seen very many skeeters out there and I've been out in the garden almost every day. :) *knock on wood*
