Those are beautifully coloured shrubs - I planted Coppertina last year - they were infested with aphids this spring and really stunted - I hope they can look like yours in a few years!!!!

WOWOWOWOWOWOW! Marcia, that Coppertina is quite stunning! The colours are wonderful. How long have you had it for? Now it is scaring me a little bit because I don't think that I have room for that 6' giant where I have planted my Coppertina in my backyard! LOL!

Now, I wonder how well ninebarks do with pruning? Can you really control its size with pruning, or are they one of these uncontrollable shrubs that will grow to a huge size regardless of how aggressive you prune it?

I've had the Coppertina for about 6 years, and have been wondering myself about pruning. It does look out of shape this year. I've never done anything to it but cut off winter dieback. It has always looked great but as i said this year it's a bit ragged.

The Centre Glow is about 4 years old. It could probably stand more sun, but for now it's going to stay where it is.

I love the colours as well!

You can prune ninebarks very hard. It's not required but it can definitely help with the shape.
