Rose of Sharon

I'm trying these again. I visited my Dad and the Rose of Sharon wasn't in bloom and no seeds were left from last year. I read about people complaining about this plant self seeding and sure enough there were little plants. I found a bigger one by the compost pile. Now I just need to figure out how to keep a zone 4-5 plant alive in zone 3a. I do have a place along the south wall that has tulips up before the snow is off the rest of the lot -- that's the likely spot.
