Marcia, mine does not get a chance to spread. It is in the middle of the garden and DH loves to till. Sometimes I wish it would spread a bit. I think I might dig some of it up and plant it out in the field away from the reaches of the tiller. When I was growing up there was a big patch on the side of the road. I just loved it.

It's pretty, Marg, but such a thug. One summer, i dug up tons of it and brought it to my son's because he wanted something like that to spread and take over. It's still there but hasn't spread as much as mine has. I've tried Round-up with no luck, and have now started trying to smother it with newspaper and mulch in another part of the garden, just to see if it works.

I guess I'm a gluton for punishment. I grow things most people won't grow, sedum acre which I use as a mulch. I also grow goutweed and adenophora. We're on a farm so the goutweed is out behind the barn and it doesn't spread. Guess that's because hubby drives the tactor etc. back there and really packs the ground.

I have goutweed too. I planted in a deep shade area behind a willow on a slope towards the creek. It's hard to mow back there, so i figured goutweed would look nice there. So far so good. I don't know how deep its runners go. There's about a foot of barrier between it and my hosta bed.

Those ninebarks look very attractive among the yellow flowering meadow and that 'El Desperado' day lily is very nice!
